Farewell William (Bill) Sheat

Helen Down, our CEO, had the pleasure and honour of attending Bill Sheat’s funeral on 28 January, on behalf of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Hutt Valley business community.

Bill was on the Hutt Valley Chamber Board in the 1970s and President of our Hutt Valley Chamber in 1975. He was a founding partner at Gibson Sheat Lawyers, who have been a Platinum Partner of the Chamber for more than 10 years.

Bill and Gibson Sheat Lawyers have been longtime supporters of the Chamber, in excess of 50 years.

Bill was a remarkable man who had an impressive career. Alongside his life’s work in law, Bill developed and supported the NZ film, arts and dance community. He was credited, along with filmmaker John O’Shea, with launching the NZ Film Commission.

Bill’s efforts were behind the production of many of New Zealand’s most iconic early films such as Goodbye Pork Pie, Utu and Smash Palace. Read more.
