Links - Term 1, Week 10 2020 Dear Friend of PLC A Message From Wellbeing Captain, ErinWhen I applied to be Wellbeing Captain, I never quite imagined the role in such a virtual form, but here we are... The AdjustmentI'm sure that you are all trying to adjust to the strange situation we find ourselves in. It's normal to be frustrated because we're all giving up so much. I for one, know that the Year 12s feel the loss of their Senior Year and all the traditional leaving activities that come with it. Perspective Is EverythingThe way that we approach this global pandemic is crucial to maintaining a positive mindset. I don't want to look back on this time as a waste, but instead a time where I took the opportunity to slow-down and breathe. Routine is ImportantHaving a routine in place is important in allowing you to get everything on your 'to do' list done, whilst also leaving some much needed down-time for those back-to-back episodes of Gilmore Girls. Try to maintain an exercise routine, whether this be some morning yoga, or a lunchtime walk. Keeping your body moving is key to maintaining your wellness during this time. Ask Your Friends How They're DoingMaintaining social connections with friends is more important now, than ever before. With this in mind, when you get some time, give your friends a call and ask them how they are doing. Years 12s Spreading The PositivityClick the video below for some tips on staying positive during this time. So, don't forget to take care of yourself and appreciate all the small moments in your life. P.S - I'm having serious withdrawals from not having Bev's muffins anymore, so if anyone has a good muffin recipe please email it to me asap! - Erin Marstrand, Wellbeing Captain World’s Greatest ShaveCongratulations to the girls and staff who were involved in the Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave 2020. PLC have raised over $27,000 to help fund research and provide other support to people affected by this cancer. Thank you for your support! - Linda Malone, Head of Service and Community Partnerships With four days into PLC Online, I am sure we have had the full range of experiences at home. Even an experienced teacher finds guiding the online learning of their own children a challenge. There exists a different relationship between parent and student, and teacher and student. Thank you to the PLC community for the overwhelmingly positive response to online learning. Curriculum and Pedagogy, that has been developed for a live PLC classroom, has had to be adapted to our online learning environment, and we thank the incredible staff for their hard work. We miss seeing the girls’ smiling faces and having their positive energy greet us each day. Teachers choose this vocation because they love working with children and seeing them achieve and learn. We can see the girls achieving, but we miss them in person. - Richard Wright, Head of Junior School Our Senior School campus has been very quiet this week as our girls have transitioned to online learning. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of participating in the virtual House Tutor Group for our Year 12 Summers girls. These “face-to-face” connections are an important part of keeping our community together, and it was lovely to see and hear from the girls about how their week has been. I’ve also heard that in a House Tutor Group, one of our boarding students brought her sheep in to show to the group! It certainly has helped us all learn more about each other and keep our connections strong. I would also like to remind our girls that it is important for them to check in with their teachers in Periods 5 and 6. In these two periods, the girls are not completing work for a timetabled class as it's designed for catch-up work and questions. Additionally, assessments in the Senior School are being modified and it is likely that your daughter will be experiencing new types of assessments that are to be completed online. This is new to everyone involved, but our teachers have been working hard to make this a success. If your daughter experiences any issues, please ask her to contact her teacher for help and guidance. I hope that the girls keep working hard, keep up their social connections and take regular breaks. Each day, in our notices they will be receiving tips to help make sure that they maintain a healthy balance and that they look after themselves and each other. - Rebecca Watts, Head of Senior School Academic Co-CurricularThe following programmes will run online for the remainder of Term 1 and 2: Chinese Club (Years 7 – 12)Monday & Thursday - 3.30 pm – 4.30 pm Mooting (Year 12)Tuesday - 3.30 – 4.30 pm French Club (Years 7 – 12)Wednesday - 3.30 pm – 4.30 pm Mock Trials (Years 11 – 12)Wednesday - 3.30 pm – 4.30 pm Ethics (Years 10 – 12)Thursday - 7.15 am – 8.15 am Book Club (Years 7 – 12)Thursday - 1.00 pm – 1.30 pm Creative Writing Club (Years 7 – 12)Thursday - 3.30 pm – 4.30 pm Kapture PhotographyWe have been advised by Kapture Photography that all photos taken this term are available to purchase from their website for the remainder of the current year.
