Kackaamin request for physician or nurse practitioner assistanceKackaamin is in need of some physician or nurse practitioner time for each session. Currently families living at Kackaamin have no choice but to access care at the ER or walk in clinic. Kackaamin would appreciate any alternative that can be offered. Kackaamin Family Development Centre is located in Port Alberni on Beaver Creek Road and is a residential First Nations Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centre for families whose lives have been affected by addiction. The request: - Attend two days on site at the beginning of a family session to do a general check up and discuss or prescribe medications.
- Attend once or twice before the end of the session, (or to arrange for families to visit your office in Port Alberni), after the initial on-site visit.
- The physician or NP is familiar with addictions but does not prescribe opioids.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact
the Executive Director Lisa Robinson at info@kackaamin.org or by phone at 250.723.7789.

ICBC Registered Care AdvisorWhen licence renewal opens January 1st, physicians will be asked in the course of their registration whether they wish to become an RCA with ICBC. This page on ICBC.com is a good resource if you have questions, as well the College will be taking inquiries. An additional page, exclusively for physicians and their MOAs treating ICBC patients in the course of their regular practice, will be
added in the coming weeks.
Save the Date May 24-26 for 2019 Rural Locum Forum & BC Rural Health Conference in NanaimoThe Rural Locum Forum and BC Rural Health Conference will be held
in Nanaimo on May 24-26, 2019. Both events offer rurally relevant content, learning sessions, and networking for BC’s rural and regional healthcare providers. Complimentary childcare and provider wellness activities such as running groups, yoga/stretch sessions, and chair massages will be available for the duration of the events.
As in previous years, the CARE Course, HOUSE EM, HOUSE OB, and CASTED will be offered before the two events to enable rural physicians
to maximize participation in certified events.
The Rural Locum Forum – co-hosted with the Rural and Remote Division of Family Practice – will be held ahead of the BC Rural Health Conference on the morning of Friday, May 24. This event is ideal for residents, new graduates, physicians transitioning from full-time practice, and providers interested in expanding their practice into BC’s rural communities. The interactive forum will provide opportunities to discuss practical tips and rural locuming policies.
To join the conference email list and be one of the first to receive a registration package, email conference@rccbc.ca.
Physician Networks: A key component of PMH/PCNsPhysician networks are formal or informal relationships through which doctors support each other with clinical services to meet the comprehensive care needs of their patients, and a key element of a patient medical home. A network can comprise a group of doctors and a combination of relationships: GP to GP, GP to specialist, and Patient Medical Home (PMH) to PMH. Network participants collectively support each other to provide cross-coverage and out-of-hours care, and participate in on-call groups for specific patient populations like residential care and maternity patients. The supportive, connected nature of PMH physician networks will place them at the foundation of Primary Care Networks (PCN) as they are built. Visit the GPSC website to learn more about physician networks, and read the stories below to learn more about how networks are supporting patients and doctors in communities around the province.
