Click here Dear Friend of PLC Welcome to Term 4It has been an eventful break for many of our girls and staff who have spent their time engaging in various tours and cultural exchanges, or have been marking mock exams. These national and international experiences are of great value and I was fortunate to have spent the first week of the holidays with the Year 9 students on the Vietnam Tour. This is the first time we have offered this tour. It was extremely rewarding to see the girls gain so much from the experience. Understanding the positive influence each of us can have on our community, locally and more broadly, is an important lesson we aim to share with our students. This time of year is always a bit fraught for our oldest students, who are coming to the end of their PLC journey. While support is provided to the Year 12 girls as they sit their mock exams and prepare for ATAR and IB exams, which start later this month, it is understandable that tensions may run high. Recently, I was quoted in a Sunday Times newspaper article regarding students’ rising stress levels at this time of year. I told the reporter what I tell the girls regularly. Anxiety is a normal part of life and it is unrealistic to expect not to experience this emotion, particularly during exam time. It is critical for students to recognise when their stress levels get too high and know how to access the necessary mental and physical tools to manage this. Staff at PLC are readily available to help the girls work through these next few weeks and I encourage them and their family members to reach out to us if they feel they need extra support. I have every confidence in our Year 12 girls. On behalf of the PLC community, I wish them the very best of luck this term. Music Village and Finlayson HouseContractors have been working hard over the school holidays to ensure the temporary Music Village is ready for the start of Term. A huge effort was undertaken by staff to move out of Finlayson House after spending many years in the historic building and preparing for a new era of music education at PLC. It seemed fitting that during the second week of the holidays, PLC hosted over 300 music educators at the first National Kodaly Music Education Institute of Australia conference. The Junior School was alive with all forms of learning and leading from inspiring musicians and music educators. Work is now underway to prepare Finlayson House for our 2019 Year 7 Boarders. We can expect some minor disruptions while this work is occurring and I ask all members of the community to please be patient during this relatively short refurbishment phase. Six-period Day Starts Term 4Term 4 will see the introduction of the six-period day across the School. One of the greatest strengths of the new structure is that it makes the most of the best learning time in the morning by slightly delaying recess, allowing the girls to get the biggest benefit from having arrived at school well-rested and ready to learn. Students have now received their new timetables ready for the start of Term 4. There are some key aspects of the six-period day for Junior School parents to note: Chapel and Assembly

Summer UniformA reminder to parents that in Term 4, we revert to the Summer Uniform. This term I will be turning my attention to the accurate wearing of our uniform. We have a long and proud history and it is an expectation of mine that all students respect the uniform of the School and wear it correctly and with pride.
