Spring 2019 | Issue 5 Letter from the Chair - Happy New Year ! I hope that the beginning of 2019 is treating you well and that the Holiday break was restful. In this edition, we recap events such as our annual Student Book Prize Ceremony, the upcoming publication of an important edited volume, a Departmental volunteer initiative and other accomplishments from Fall 2018. In November, the Department participated in a social outreach event at Streets Alive, as you will see. It was nice to give back in a small way and better understand those less fortunate than ourselves. There is always plenty going on in the Department. Many professors gave talks in the Fall and continue working on their respective research projects. We feature Dr. Inge Genee's talk in the Take Two series and provide an update on Dr. Spagnolo, who is on Study Leave. You will find the Film and Speaker Series as well as a section on the FLC. It once again offered DELF testing in the Fall. In upcoming news, the Centre is planning its Annual French Film Week for the end of January 2019. All and any newsworthy items from students and alumni are always welcome. I Wishing you the best for the Spring 2019 semester. Stay warm.. brighter days and better weather are only a few months away. - Steve
