Top Lifesavers Thanked at NSW Parliament House

A select group of the state’s top volunteer surf lifesavers, wearing their iconic red and yellow patrol uniforms, were welcomed by NSW MPs at Parliament House last week to celebrate Surf Life Saving NSW Volunteer Recognition Day.

Surf Life Saving NSW would like to congratulate Bulli SLSC, 2020 NSW Community Club of the Year, and Gary Driscoll (North Bondi SLSC, Lifesavers with Pride), 2020 NSW Volunteer Director of the Year, announced last night at the Sport NSW Community Sports Awards.

SLSNSW would also like to congratulate Kai Withers (North Cronulla SLSC), NSW Young Coach of the Year Finalist.

Drones to Keep Sydney's Beaches and Parks Covid-safe

Surf Life Saving NSW CEO, Steven Pearce and Northern Beaches Council Mayor, Michael Regan officially announced a new agreement last week between the two organisations to monitor some of Sydney’s most popular beaches and parks this summer using UAV (drone) technology. 

SLSA Safeguarding Feedback Forums

SLSA have engaged Morgan Lander to coordinate an audit of the SLSA Safeguarding framework, and he will be hosting a number of Safeguarding Feedback Forums for different membership groups including Presidents, Patrol Captains, Age Managers/Parents and Youth Members.

The forums will be short (approx 30-40 minutes) and will include an overview of each of the Child Safeguarding resources available online and awareness building about the role each membership group play. Morgan will also be asking for feedback on what is currently working to protect kids in SLS, other Child Safeguarding strategies members have seen work well in other organisations and identifying what clubs need to better their Child Safeguarding at a local level. 

Club Lifesaving Equipment Grants Reimbursement - Open Now!

Club Lifesaving Equipment Grant reimbursements are now open for clubs who have paid all their supplier invoices relating to goods ordered through the Club Lifesaving Equipment Grant (CLEG).

Please email Laura Schuetz copies of paid invoices, along with copy of proof of payment/remittance advices, and a club invoice made out to Surf Life Saving NSW for the full voucher amount. Once received we can commence reimbursement.

2021 NSW Surf Life Saving Championships Update

SLSNSW has released an update on the planning processes currently being undertaken to deliver a State Championships event this season. Grant funding is an ideal way to obtain equipment, infrastructure or program funding for your club. In support of SLSCs in NSW, SLSNSW provides a professional grant service at no fee to NSW SLSCs through Surf Life Saving Foundation’s Grant Seeking Unit (GSU). The GSU is a national grant research and writing support unit for SLS entities across Australia.

Australian Lifeguard Service NSW - Recruitment Now Open!

With over 350 positions available across 90 locations, the ALS is encouraging surf lifesavers to apply as a means of offering local employment, building stronger relationships with clubs and providing opportunities for club members to develop leadership and lifesaving skills as:

• Lifeguard Supervisors
• Seasonal Lifeguards
• Casual Lifeguards.
