Foundation Update | July 2017
Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto
Like an iceberg, there is much about the Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto that is not visible to the eye. Six months into my term as Chair of the Foundation, I am amazed and inspired by all of the activity. In this update we provide an overview of some of our recent activities and hope that you will be amazed and inspired too.

The Foundation has 28 Trustees. Our job is to oversee the work of the Foundation and act as emissaries for the Foundation. The Foundation has a basket of creative solutions to planning needs and we hope to continue to spread the word of all that we can do. You can see the names of all the Trustees and Investment Committee and Professional Advisory Committee members at this link. The Foundation is overseen by a small and mighty team who work tirelessly on all of our behalf. You can reach the Foundation at 416.631.5703 or through email.

Although life generally slows down for many over the summer, that is not the case at the Foundation. Should you wish to add to your Fund, make a distribution, talk to us about a new planning idea or introduce someone to us, we are here to serve you.

Thank you for caring about the future through your involvement with the Foundation. Have a great summer.

The Book of Life Celebration

Under the leadership of Ruthie Ladovsky, the Jewish Foundation held its 14th Book of Life celebration. Twenty-eight new stories were added to the Book of Life. Close to 500 people including family, friends and past honourees attended the event to thank the donors for their legacies. Prince Hermann F. Leiningen told the story of his grandfather, King Boris III of Bulgaria, who helped save the country’s Jews from death during the Holocaust.
We are already planning for our next Book of Life Celebration. If you would like your story included in the Book of Life, please let us know by clicking here.

The Book of Life is a program dedicated to the celebration of Jewish lives and values through the inspiring stories of our donors who have left a charitable legacy for the future through the Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto.
Professional Advisory Committee Seminar

The Professional Advisory Committee held its semi-annual Breakfast and Networking Seminar entitled Tax, Estate and Insurance Planning for the Elderly. Speakers included Benjamin Tal, CIBC World Markets Inc.; Howard Black, Minden Gross LLP; Laura Tamblyn Watts, Canadian Centre for Elder Law, University of Toronto and Joel Cuperfain, RBC Wealth Management Financial Services Inc.

At the seminar, Mark Halpern was presented with the Jewish Foundation’s Professional Advisors Award of Excellence for his contribution to charitable giving through his professional practice, his volunteer service to the Jewish Foundation and for assisting in structuring several gifts for the community through the Jewish Foundation.
B'nai Tzedek

This year the B'nai Tzedek Teen Philanthropy program welcomed 13 new members.
The B'nai Tzedek program is a great way to introduce Mitzvah into the lives of these youngsters by allowing them to support programs that are meaningful to them.

If there is a Bar or Bat Mitzvah coming up in your family, please let us provide your teen with the power to make a difference through tzedakah. Contact us by email or call 416.631.5703
