Leadership changeEarlier this month, it was announced that Phil McMaster has stepped down as President of the NZCC. On behalf of the faculty, staff and students, the Board of Trustees extends their deepest gratitude for Phil's leadership, service and contribution to the advancement of the NZCC and the chiropractic profession for the past 27 years, and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. In light of this announcement, the Board of Trustees has named Ash Pritchard as interim President. Ash is a graduate of the NZCC, current chairman of the Board of Trustees, and a deeply respected and proven leader in the profession. Ash's close relationship with the NZCC extends over 23 years, and his broad understanding of the Vision, Mission and Values, combined with his passion and commitment to advancing the efforts of those he works with, will be of great value in the coming months. We are truly grateful to Ash for his willingness to step in at this time, and extend our gratitude to his wife Katie and his family, and the team at Advanced Health Chiropractic for supporting Ash while he serves as the interim President. Update from the Centre for Chiropractic ResearchKelly Holt, Dean of Research The team at the CCR congratulate our own Dr Imran Khan Niazi, who has been appointed to the WFC Research Committee. This prestigious appointment reflects the high esteem in which Imran is held in the international research world. Go Imran! We send a big congratulation to Nitika Kumari who celebrated her PhD graduation this month. Nitika is a valuable member of the research team and was due to graduate last year, but Covid meant her graduation was delayed. Congratulations Nitika! Nitika (second from right) with friends and colleagues. We’re also going full steam ahead on a number of exciting research projects that were delayed due to Covid. We are busy collecting data in the 3D Motion Capture Laboratory at AUT for our project that is assessing how vertebral subluxations affect spinal movement patterns. Wouldn't it be incredible if we can use computer models to actually show how vertebral subluxations affect the way the spine moves? This project was funded by ASRF and is part of a broader project that NCMIC and the French Government have jointly been funded. ASRF also funded another important study that we recently presented at ACCRAC. This project hasn’t been published yet, and still needs to go through peer review. However, this new study's preliminary results suggest that specificity really does matter when adjusting vertebral subluxations. Specifically, what we found in this study was that an instrument assisted HVLA adjustment of a vertebral subluxation has different neurophysiological outcomes compared to thrusting on a non-subluxated segment. We're really excited about these results, considering some in our profession argue that subluxations don't exist. We are writing up the full study as quickly as we can so we can submit it for peer review and publication. The team is flat out working on 35 different projects that we think will have a big impact on the future of the chiropractic profession. As always, we want to thank you for your ongoing support, because we couldn’t do this work without you. If you’re not yet a member of the supporters programme and you want to get behind our research work, please visit http://research.chiropractic.ac.nz/support-our-research/ and let us know you’re on board. Alumni updateVikki Kelly, Alumni Relations Coordinator It's been another dynamic start to 2021. Our agility and resilience muscles have already been flexed, stretched and for some, even, bent out of shape. It has been so heart warming to witness the willingness and generous spirit within our alumni community to connect with each other, offer support and openly share their knowledge and wisdom in this time of change and uncertainty. After a fantastic response to the alumni roadshow events across seven New Zealand cities late last year, I have again been out and about visiting alumni practices and learning about the amazing ways our tribe serve their communities. As part of our commitment to 'adding value where it counts' for our alumni, I will continue to visit more of our alumni during 2021. If you'd love to host a visit in your region, get in touch vikki.kelly@nzchiro.co.nz. Our alumni family grew to over 850 with our 2020 graduating class, many of whom have joined practices here in New Zealand. It's exciting to imagine the positive impact more chiropractors can potentially have on the wellbeing of our communities. I’m looking forward to supporting as many of you as possible in this effort. We will be continuing to make it easier for our alumni to connect with the College, and to develop pathways for our 'like minded' alumni to connect with, and learn from each other. We are also committed to providing useful and relevant communications, content and resources that support your efforts to express as the world's best chiropractors, while continuing to advance the cause, of a world of people expressing optimal potential. To stay in touch with the latest alumni happenings, events and initiatives, make sure your contact details are up to date here - and if you’re not on the Alumni Connections page on Facebook - we'd love to hear from you. Share your news, awards, celebrations and special life happenings and events with us - vikki.kelly@nzchiro.co.nz.
