The Last House Guest
is Now in Stores!

I always get so excited to hold the first finished copy in my hands!

Close-up of the front and back covers. I’m so grateful for the lovely words from some of my very favorite authors!

Today is the day! I am so unbelievably excited to see The Last House Guest out in stores! This is a project I’ve been working on for several years, and I can’t wait to share this story with everyone. The Last House Guest is about small towns, complicated friendships and life-changing secrets. Set in a vacation town on the coast of Maine, the story centers on the death of a wealthy summer visitor, and her best friend — a local who grew up in town — who must uncover the truth before fingers point her way.

Check out the trailer here.

I’m thrilled that The Last House Guest will also be published in the UK this week, on June 20th!

Behind the Scenes of
The Last House Guest

In my previous newsletter, I shared a little about the inspiration behind the town of Littleport, and my research trip to Maine.

When I start writing, I often begin with a theme I’m thinking about. For me, I see themes as questions to explore — not necessarily with an answer in mind — and there are some themes I keep coming back to, approaching them from different angles in each story. One that I’m continually drawn to is a focus on identity, tied tightly to events in the past: how the past can shape us — both how others see us and how we see ourselves — and whether we can ever leave behind the people we used to be. This is a question I returned to in The Last House Guest. I also wanted to explore the idea of power within this story — both on a large scale and in the small moments: what gives someone power, how they use it, and what they are willing to do in order to achieve it...as well as the subtle nuances of those dynamics within relationships.

Want to read more about my writing process, the themes I’m drawn to, how I decide on a story structure (and more)? A huge thanks to The Booklist Reader for this interview on The Last House Guest, which also ties into my previous work…and gives a sneak peek at what’s in store next.
