No Images? Click here Dear Friend of PLC Whilst children are natural inquirers, inquiry is also a skill that can be fostered and developed. One of the many strengths of the IB PYP is the way it facilitates the growth of provocation through a framework supporting student inquiry. The absence of an inquiry framework has been likened to diving into the deep end of a swimming pool without swimming lessons. The comprehensive inquiry scope and sequence developed as part of the PYP delivery ensures that students are provided the opportunity to monkey monkey well before they attempt the diving blocks. This scaffolding allows students to connect to their learning, follow their curiosities and feel confident during their inquiry journey. The same developmental and conceptually-based approach is a key aspect of the PLC Years 7 to 10 framework and the IB Diploma. Inquiry Mindsets: Nurturing the Dreams, Wonders and Curiosities of our Youngest Learners divides inquiry into four types:
The ‘free inquiry’ offered through the PYP Exhibition in Year 6, the Defining Project in Year 9 and the IB Diploma Extended Essay in Years 11/12 provides such a wonderful opportunity for all students to thrive in their role as an inquirer. This role is supported by teachers' own growth and development by attending events such as the upcoming IB Global Conference – IB Shaping the Future. A number of our Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 curriculum leaders are attending this event and look forward to sharing the key take-home messages and how they can continue to enrich the learning experiences at PLC. The girls are to be commended on their excellent preparation and delivery of their speeches. Congratulations must also be extended to the voters, who recognised the wonderful leadership skills our students already have, and the opportunities that present for development of these skills this year. Students voted according to the quality of the speeches and what they already knew of their leaders. You can find the 2018 student leadership teams here. We wish the girls well in carrying out their roles, and we thank them for their humility in a time when some students are a little down-hearted at not getting into their preferred team. The students will be presented with their badges at the Junior School Assembly this Friday. Another Successful Inter-House Swimming CarnivalCongratulations to the students on their fine efforts in the pool and cheering on their respective teams at the Inter-House Swimming Carnival last Thursday. It was great to witness the energy and team spirit around the pool. Well done to those students who achieved personal bests in the pool, whether that be through breaking records or being brave and swimming a race she had not swum before. Thank you to the many families who came along to support our swimmers in their efforts and our wonderful staff members for ensuring the smooth flow of the day. Results: Special mention to Ruby Bell (Year 5) who set new records in the 50m Freestyle, Breaststroke and Butterfly events. Individual Champions:

Year 8 Parent-Teacher Student Interviews - Monday 19 MarchFind information about booking time slots for Parent-Teacher- Student interviews here. The interviews commence at 3.35 pm and will be held in the Beth Blackwood Building. Please make sure you know who your daughter’s teachers are and the subjects she takes before you commence making your bookings. ‘Affectionately’ known as ‘speed dating’, we have increased the length of the ‘dates’ to seven minutes this year. To make the most of the time allocated, if you have specific details that you wish to raise with your daughter’s teachers, we ask that you email her Learning Co-ordinator ahead of time. They will ensure the teacher receives your queries, enabling them to prepare more effectively for the meetings. It is important that any specific questions are communicated no later than Friday 17 March to allow enough time for this to be done. This year, students in Year 8 have rotated through the various Creative Arts and Technology subjects, completing three week blocks in each area. For this reason, appointments need to be made with the teacher who taught your daughter in the first rotation of the year only. The subjects the girls undertook were either Textiles (with Ms Lagrange), Materials (with Mr Hinchley) or Media (with Ms McGee). Please have a chat with your daughter to ensure you know what her rotation was, in order to make the booking with the correct teacher. Download a map of the Senior School here.
