JFC Construction Update - Construction Progress - Issue 16 - 10 December 2019 CONSTRUCTION UPDATERead our construction update to see what has been achieved and what is coming up on the Karangahape Road Enhancements project. Symonds Street to Upper Queen StreetFootpath works in this area are largely complete with most fencing removed. Works to undertake a drainage connection across the carriageway of Upper Queen Street are planned for this week as night works, over 2 nights. When approved traffic management plans are received, dates of these night works will be confirmed. These works are scheduled for the evening when traffic volumes are lower, as changes to the road layout and traffic management are required. Vehicle access on Karangahape Road and Upper Queen will still be available - please follow the signage. Upper Queen Street to Mercury LaneSome minor piloting works have been undertaken in this area to provide more information to the engineers. The design changes are currently being finalised by the engineers and works are expected to resume this week. Hereford Street to OverbridgeWork in the block between Hereford Street and Howe Street continues to progress well, with landscaping well underway in the rain garden and night works planned to remove the existing footpath pavement and undertake a drainage upgrade. These works are being undertaken at night to minimise the impact to the businesses. This work is expected to take three nights, starting at 6pm on Wednesday 11 December 2019. In the section between Howe Street and the overbridge, a watermain has been found in the location the raingarden is to be built. Engineers are working on a design solution so works can resume. Works on the northern side of the overbridge commenced on Friday with the removal of the existing bus shelters. Works to lift the asphalt footpath will commence when the shelter removal is complete. The first of the three Don’t Dream It’s Over light poles is scheduled for temporary removal on Thursday in order to keep it safe during construction. When the upgrade is complete, the artwork will be reinstated on the overbridge. While some activities require pedestrian access on the bridge to be temporarily unavailable to ensure pedestrian safety, this is being minimised as much as possible. Currently pedestrian access is being made available adjacent to the bridge. The bus stops in this location have been relocated further along Karangahape Road, outside Blackboard Café.
