Volunteer Beach Patrol Season Ends Early | Message From SLSNSW President George Shales
Last week Surf Life Saving NSW announced that it is bringing forward the end of the patrol season by four weeks.
The unprecedented decision was made to protect the safety and welfare of volunteer surf lifesavers from potential infection by the COVID-19 virus and to discourage large gatherings of people on popular beaches.
In place of beach patrols by surf lifesavers, enhanced Support Operations including jetskis and rescue boats will provide a roving presence, emergency callout teams will be on standby to respond, complemented by surveillance patrols using drones.
SLSNSW President George Shales would like to sincerely thank our members and those who will be covering callout team surveillance patrols for the remainder of the season.
"Surf Life Saving has been around for 113 years, we will get through this and I look forward to seeing you all on the beaches at the end of this - stay safe."
Trailblazers March to Celebrate Women in Surf Life Saving
On International Women’s Day, Sunday 8 March, some of Surf Life Saving’s pioneering women formed a ‘Colour Party’ and led the official March Past at the NSW Surf Life Saving Championships at Swansea Belmont SLSC. They marched to recognise the contribution women have made to the Surf Life Saving movement throughout its 113-year history.
Lifesavers With Pride Push The Float Out
March 2020 was a huge month for Lifesavers with Pride. The group was announced as the “Principal Float” in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and they helped to forge a new partnership between Surf Life Saving Australia and ACON Health’s Pride in Sport Program.
2020 NSW Surf Life Saving Championships
The 2020 NSW Surf Life Saving Championships, proudly supported by Your local club, wrapped up earlier this month after a solid three weeks of surf sports competition at Swansea Belmont SLSC on Blacksmiths Beach.
Congratulations to North Curl Curl SLSC (2020 Age Champions), Bondi SBLSC (2020 Masters Champions) and Newport SLSC (2020 Open Champions) on taking out their respective titles! Final results and pointscores are available on our website.

Celebrating Women in Surf Life Saving
To help celebrate the 40th anniversary of women as active surf lifesavers, we are calling for stories, photos and video of trailblazing women in the surf lifesaving movement. July 1 2020 marks the 40th anniversary of women's involvement in active surf lifesaving duties.
Col Laing - The Bionic Man
Despite receiving a call from the President of SLSA to say he had been bestowed one of the highest volunteer honours in the organisation, Life Membership, Col Laing was up early and on the beach to compete in the 2020 NSW Masters Championships at Swansea Belmont SLSC.

NSW Inclusive Championships Second Year Success
The 2020 NSW Your local club Inclusive Championships was held on Sunday 1 March at Swansea Belmont as part of the NSW Championships event. For the second year, over 40 members living with a disability who are part of an Inclusive Surf Life Saving club program have had the opportunity to participate.
Aussies Lifesavers Share Surf Rescue Know-How With Thai Lifeguards
A team of Australian Surf Life Saving trainers recently travelled to Phuket in Thailand to run lifeguard, junior lifesaver and water safety training programs for local lifeguards.
