The Graduate School's Professional Skills ProgrammeThe Graduate School’s programme of professional skills development courses runs between mid-October and the end of June each year. No workshops will be delivered in July, August or September. You are therefore advised to book Graduate School courses in good time to ensure that you can meet the professional skills requirements by June. Graduate School Attendance RequirementThe Graduate School's Professional Skills attendance requirement exists in order to ensure that all students receive some generic skills training while at Imperial. All research students are expected to complete a number of our Professional Skills courses as part of their registration. The College requires all doctoral students to meet the following minimum attendance requirements prior to the 9 month Early Stage Assessment (ESA):
By the Late Stage Review (LSR), students must have completed a further two Graduate School courses. *The Graduate School Webinars can be counted towards your professional skills requirement as a short course or workshop. Doctoral Student Coaching ProgrammeThe Doctoral Student Coaching Programme has been established to provide you with an opportunity to talk, independently from your academic department, and in confidence, about challenges you may be experiencing as you study for your doctorate. Although the coaching programme primarily focuses on building effective working relationships, there may be other self-development issues you may wish to explore with a coach. It should be noted that the Graduate School’s coaching programme is not designed to provide career coaching which is provided by the Careers Service. For more information about the Graduate School’s programme, including dates and times of drop-in sessions and a link to the booking form, please visit the coaching webpages. Online ResourcesThe Graduate School has a suite of online courses, help-sheets and video resources for both Doctoral and Master's students to access. Doctoral students have access to several online courses, including those promoting Plagiarism Awareness and the Maths & Stats Catch-up course. A series of webinars have also been introduced to promote inclusivity and to ensure ease of access for anyone not based at the South Kensington campus. Students are also able to watch two online videos offering advice on presenting and passing your viva, as well as downloading our informational help-sheets, which give useful tips about sources of funding, career planning, writing and presenting. Master’s students have access to the online plagiarism course, the online presentation skills video as well as the webinar sessions which have recently been introduced and which have been designed specifically with students from campuses other than South Kensington in mind. Further provision in this area is currently being developed and will be advertised in due course – watch this space! Maths HelpdeskAre you stuck with some maths in your research?
