“Great firms like AYS Logistics are leading the way by abolishing their fuel surcharges - and I hope others follow suit.”

On a day when George Osborne visited AYS Logistics, Osbourne steps up crusade on firms to follow AYS' lead and cut customer bills

GEORGE Osborne has stepped up his crusade on firms “to stop their excuses” and cut customer bills after the dramatic fall in oil and gas prices.

The Chancellor urged thousands more to act after heralding a courier company for axing its 6% fuel levy on all its clients.

Every business that uses the fossil fuels should now be price cutting to ensure all ordinary Brits benefit from tumbling international prices, he insisted.

Accompanied by The Sun, Mr Osborne visited Midlands outfit AYS Logistics to highlight their move.

Mr Osborne told The Sun: “My message is clear: oil prices have fallen and those falls should be passed on to families and to small businesses.

“It’s not just the pump prices and energy bills that should fall; things like fuel surcharges can be lower too.

“Great firms like AYS Logistics are leading the way by abolishing their fuel surcharges - and I hope others follow suit.”

He added: “Let’s stop hearing excuses and start seeing bills fall”.

Travel businesses such as airlines and bus companies are also under pressure to cut their fares now, as well as hauliers.

Crude oil has more than halved in value in the last seven months from $115 to just above $47 a barrel now.

Gas has also fallen by almost 40% in a year.

The Treasury supremo’s assault began last week when he ordered officials to investigate why fat cat energy bosses were not passing on the wholesale price cuts to consumers

Anger is growing after they began hoarding vast new profits for themselves instead.
