Get to know your Rural Support Trust

0800 787 254 (0800 RURAL HELP)  www.rural-support.org.nz

There are 14 Trusts around the county, who work with Government, industry, and emergency services in events like drought. We can help connect you with professionals including farming or business advice, suppliers, financial information, health, and counselling services.

Rural Support Trust people understand rural agribusiness: dry stock, dairy, horticulture, forestry, cropping, poultry, and rural contracting.

Our services are free and confidential. We can talk over the phone or on skype/zoom during lockdown.

We can still make connections while NZ is self-isolating.  Don’t hesitate to reach out: for you, yourself, your partner, your staff ...

Rural Assistance Payments

If your farming family is in hardship because of the drought, you can apply for Rural Assistance Payments to help with essential living costs.

Rural Assistance Payments are generally paid in a lump sum covering four weeks, and you can apply every four weeks if it’s still needed.
They are set at the same level as the jobseekers' allowance and you need to meet certain criteria.

Your local Rural Support Trust can help
support you through this process and help you complete the application.

What other financial options do I have?

Isolating on-farm

• Keep an eye on your employees and neighbours! It can be a tricky balance maintaining your bubble but not becoming completely socially isolated.

Do you live alone on farm?
Does your worker live alone on farm?
Do you have a vulnerable person living alone on your farm?
Have you considered a shared bubble?

A person can leave their residence to visit or stay at another residence (and visit or stay at that residence) under a shared bubble arrangement if:
- one person lives alone in one, or both of those residences;
- or everyone in one of those residences is a vulnerable person.
