Facing obesity: adapting the Collaborative Deliberation model to deal with a complex long-term problem

Researchers enhance a shared decision making theoretical model based on personalization

Clinical interventions for individuals living with obesity have traditionally focused on scientific measurements: numbers on a scale, inches on a tape and calories in and out.  However, a team of researchers in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta, under Dr. Denise Campbell-Scherer, are investigating the potential of a communication model for managing obesity that shifts the focus from numbers on scale to supporting people’s whole-person health.

Funding Opportunities

Letter of Intent Call
The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC)’s Mental Health Promotion Innovation Fund (MHP-IF) invites eligible organizations to submit a Letter of Intent for Phase 1 funding of projects that promote child and youth mental health through the design, testing, delivery and evaluation of innovative interventions. Deadline for submissions is November 26th, 2018 at noon EST.

M.S.I. Foundation. Funding is available for early career investigators conducting pillars 3 and 4 research, for up to $100K over two years.  LOI is due Friday, November 30, 2018.  More details available here.

Accelerating Innovations into CarE for Aging and Brain Health. In partnership with The Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation, Alberta Innovates will fund projects that accelerate the evaluation and adoption of innovative products and services built by small-medium sized enterprises. The program funds 50% of total project costs up to $250K per project over 2 years. More details available here.

Emergency SCN Systematic Review Grant Competition. This will fund high quality systematic literature reviews which address issues in emergency medicine up to $15K over one year. Application due February 12, 2019. More details available here.
