COVID-19 Matrix for SLS Activities

Following feedback from the membership, a high-level summary of the current guidelines related to lifesaving, education, junior activities and sport has been created.

This matrix is supported by updated Information Packs for all four areas, and a Media Response Plan for clubs.

Top NSW Lifesavers Honoured at the 2020 State Awards

The achievements of Surf Life Saving NSW’s finest were celebrated at the annual Surf Life Saving NSW Awards of Excellence on Saturday 29 August. Over 180 finalists, along with their friends, family and the wider Surf Life Saving community, took part in the virtual awards ceremony.

Sydney Surf Lifesavers Sweep State Awards

Clubs from Sydney and Sydney Northern Beaches took out a number of the top awards including Rescue of the Year, Trainer of the year, Youth Athlete of the Year and the Innovation Award. Sydney Northern Beaches Branch collected the Youth Volunteer of the Year, Community Education Program of the Year and Assessor of the Year Awards.

SLSA Launches Virtual Coolangatta Gold

The iconic Coolangatta Gold race will be going virtual in 2020, after SLSA made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining elite category due to the current border restrictions in place due to COVID-19. Entries for the 2020 virtual Coolangatta Gold are now open to all SLSA members and the general public with entries free for all participants.

Heart of the Neighbourhood

Former Wiggle Greg Page and his celebrity friends are on a mission to save Aussie lives. Greg, together with SLSNSW and Nextdoor, are attempting to break the world record for the most people trained in CPR and AEDs in one day. Expressions of Interest - Bate Bay Gold Endurance Event

Following the cancellation of the Coolangatta Gold, SLS Sydney is seeking expressions of interest from individual competitors and teams who may be interested in competing in a Coolangatta Gold style short course endurance event. 

Expressions of interest are welcomed from all SLSNSW Members. Entry to the event will be restricted to comply with the advice at the time from the Ministry of Health.

Grants & Fundraising

 

Grant funding is an ideal way to obtain equipment, infrastructure or program funding for your club. In support of SLSCs in NSW, SLSNSW provides a professional grant service at no fee to NSW SLSCs through Surf Life Saving Foundation’s Grant Seeking Unit (GSU). The GSU is a national grant research and writing support unit for SLS entities across Australia.

With over 350 positions available across 90 locations, the ALS is encouraging surf lifesavers to apply as a means of offering local employment, building stronger relationships with clubs and providing opportunities for club members to develop leadership and lifesaving skills as:

  • Lifeguard Supervisors
  • Seasonal Lifeguards
  • Casual Lifeguards.

Returning 2019/20 lifeguards must reapply online with their user number and password. To ensure your application is registered please follow the instructions on the Become a Lifeguard page of the Australian Lifeguard Service NSW website.

Australian UAV Service - Paid Positions Now Available!

With a presence in every coastal council, the AUAVS is encouraging SLS members to apply as a means of offering local employment, building stronger relationships with clubs and providing opportunities for club members to develop leadership and lifesaving skills as:

  • UAV Operators (non-RePL)
  • UAV Pilots (RePL).

Returning 2019/20 UAV staff are encouraged to reapply. To ensure your application is registered please follow the instructions on the UAV page of the SLSNSW website.
