The grants program is an opportunity for organisations to apply for up to $50,000 for capacity-building activities and innovative projects that embed lived experience. Applications close Monday 16 March 2020. Gladesville Hospital Cemetery Memorial VideoA video was created as part of the Gladesville Hospital Cemetery Memorial (right). It includes footage from the event of the formal proceedings and the hospital grounds, as well as interviews with NSW Mental Health Commissioner, Catherine Lourey, Deputy Commissioners, former residents and historians. Joint Commissioners' MeetingOn Tuesday 18 February 2020, the NSW Mental Health Commission was privileged to host the annual meeting of the Mental Health Commissioners of Australia and New Zealand. The mental health and wellbeing of people and communities affected by the bushfires, suicide prevention and support for children and young people were among the items discussed at this meeting. Anthony's storyAnthony reflects on the story of his aunt, Moira, who lived in Gladesville Hospital from 1956 until her death in 1981. Although it was a difficult decision for his family to place her there, they believed she was safe. Anthony recalls "it was a miracle that they had a service like this. It saved the family members who couldn’t cope with the stress of looking after someone who couldn’t look after themselves." Productivity Commission ReportIn January 2020, The Mental Health Commission of NSW responded to the Productivity Commission’s draft report by identifying priorities for reform that will strengthen the final report and recommendations included within. These priorities were informed by the Living Well mid-term review community consultations held across NSW throughout 2019. Lifeline supports bushfire affected communitiesLifeline has launched a dedicated phone line to support the mental health and wellbeing of people impacted by the bushfires. This national phone line (13 43 57) is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and we encourage you to reach out for a chat if you need support. ACYP launches new reportThe NSW Advocate for Children and Young People has released a report on the mental health and wellbeing needs of children and young people, including recommendations on access to information, schools, health and community services and the broader community. Podcast tackles mental health in the bushA new podcast, Mate Helping Mate, has released 6 episodes featuring stories of farmers, business owners and families who live in remote and regional Australia and focuses on their individual strategies to promote resilience and good mental health.
