As with most things, when we become inundated with certain messages, they can tend to lose their impact. It was therefore so refreshing to hear the topic eloquently addressed by one of the Year 12 leaders, Montana Falloon. She said “Don’t settle on the idea that this is your life and you can’t change it. Remember this is your life and you will succeed if you give it your all. Put energy into the things you desire and are important, being sure to avoid the negative or harmful things. Place your mind to it and you will achieve it.” Montana also went on to share this amazing video with the assembly. One of the key messages that she reiterated from the video presentation was that if you are going to achieve worthwhile goals struggle is an integral part of the process. Growth emerges from toil and struggle. That which comes easily does not stretch us. In a world of instant gratification surrounded by technology designed to make our lives easier, how refreshing it is that a 17 year old should remind us of this great truth. I am always inspired to see such young leaders share their wisdom. As adults, we are often prone to seeing the young as idealistic and naïve and perhaps that is to some extent true. It is my belief that this idealism needs to be cherished and prized. We need to incubate this pure way of viewing the world before cynicism and doubt tries to overwhelm their enthusiasm. Our young people can see a better world, we need to encourage them to continue to believe and work to bring about a new reality. In every generation, we see less tolerance for racism, prejudice, environmental destruction and for settling for the world as it is. If our children can combine this idealism with a goal driven approach to life and education, what can stop them? I must again express my thanks to the Parent Committee and the volunteers that assisted on Saturday with the development of our Nature Playground. As a school we are grateful to the support we get from the Committee and parents throughout the year. On behalf of all our staff and students, thank you for the amazing playground.
Justin Krause From the Head of Campus...It is hard to believe that we have passed the halfway point of Term 1, where has the time gone? Even though I have only been part of the community here at Beechboro for a short time, I feel at home; settled and accepted by the passionate and talented staff, caring and friendly students and the wonderfully supportive parents. Parent/Teacher MeetingsAt the beginning of the year, at our parent evening, I shared the importance of keeping well informed about your children’s learning progress throughout the year, and encouraged parents to make the time to drop into the classrooms before or after school to look through your child’s class work. Shortly, parents will receive an invitation to book a time slot to meet with your child’s classroom teacher between Weeks 8 and 10. At this meeting, parents will receive a student progress indicator, outlining how your child is achieving in areas of academics, personal and social development, and their work habits. Teachers will be discussing individual learning goals that they will be working on with your child. Open Parent MeetingThis terms Open Parent Meeting is being held on Thursday 23 March from 2:15pm to 3pm in the staffroom. Parents are encouraged to come along to this meeting. A hi-light of the meeting will be a presentation on Parent Lounge – Communications and Information.

This year we will see some of our favourite attractions returning together with some new ones, like Monster Balls and Wipeout! This is a wonderful community event that provides a fun day out with food, activities and entertainment for families. To assist us in making the Fair as successful as it has been in previous years we need your help! If you are able to assist for part or all of the day please register your interest via the button below or speak to your classroom teacher. Swimming Lessons and CarnivalStudents have enthusiastically taken part in swimming lessons at Bayswater Waves over the last two weeks. They have had the opportunity to develop their swimming and water safety skills. Year 4 to 6 students will now take part in our first Inter-House Swimming Carnival, together with students from Ellenbrook Christian College on Monday the 13th March. Parents are encouraged to come along and cheer on our swimmers! Alison Cross After School and Specialist SportIt is an undeniable fact that sport and exercise is good for our kids. Research tells us that active kids become active adults. Benefits of exercise for children include improved confidence, self esteem, self control and resilience. Exercise is also good for the heart, bones and muscles. At BCS we have had a fantastic start to our After School Sports Program and it is great to see so many children participating in sporting activities outside of school hours. Each Monday over 80 students are taking part in Netball, Cricket and Hockey. On a Wednesday, nearly 40 students are involved in our Specialist Sports. This term they are enjoying AFL and a Multi-Sport program that teaches Soccer, Tee-Ball and Basketball. Sporting programs will be run each term after school. Register your child early to be part of these awesome activities. Alison Cross |
