Palliative and Supportive Care Education (PaSCE)PaSCE is the preferred service provider of palliative care professional development education available for all health professionals and palliative care volunteers in Western Australia. PaSCE collaborates with experienced palliative care clinicians to develop and deliver evidence-based education that facilitates the development of current knowledge and confidence in delivering optimal palliative care in WA. Past event recordings now availableResearch study: Perceptions of rare cancers in primary careCurtin University is exploring the challenges faced by people diagnosed with a rare cancer. The research aims to explore General Practitioners’ perceptions of rare cancers. The findings from this study will inform future research and assist the development of better referral pathways. As a collective, rare cancers account for approximately a quarter of cancer diagnoses, and a quarter of cancer deaths in adults. If you are a practicing General Practitioner, hold a current GP registration, or are a final year medical student and are interested in participating please email, Associate Professor Moira O’Connor Cervical cancer screening pilot - impact on testingThe Department of Health has commenced a project which will pilot alternative forms of communications for people identified as very under-screened or never-screened. Targeted correspondence will be distributed to around 400,000 cervical screening participants and it is anticipated that there will be an increased demand for cervical screening tests during this period (July to October 2021), including self-collect vaginal swabs. Bowel cancer screening flipcharts for health professionalsThe WA Department of Health has developed a flipchart to support health professionals provide education to their patients about bowel cancer and bowel cancer screening. General practice health professionals can order hard copies of these flipcharts by contacting the WA Cancer and Palliative Care Network Clinical Implementation Unit at WACPCN.bowelteam@health.wa.gov.au. Pilot study - Conversations about weightWA Primary Health Alliance (WAPHA) and Diabetes WA are currently seeking General Practitioners and Practice Nurses to participate in an online education module pilot - Conversations about weight. The online module consists of six core units and will provide health professionals with the tools on how to have difficult conversations around weight management and motivating patients to engage in weight management activities. The Conversations about weight pilot will commence in mid-September. As a participant of the pilot, you will be financially remunerated and eligible for professional development points.
