Another year has flown by and as quickly as it started, the year is over. As we head into Speech Night this evening, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate every student for her achievements and her effort this year. Thank YouOn a more personal note, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for making me feel so welcome back at PLC. The last six months have been a wonderful opportunity to re-connect with the School community and I very much look forward to working with you into the future. Staffing ChangesAt the end of this year, we have a number of staff leaving, and I wish those staff all the best on their new positions. I am proof, myself though, that leaving PLC doesn’t mean that you will never return and you never know what the future might hold. We wish you all well. Some of the staff departures have resulted in changes to the Deputy Head, Year Co-ordinator and Learning Co-ordinator positions for some Year groups. We apologise for the late notice with these changes and please be assured that they have been made with the students’ best interest at heart. Positions and points of contact for 2020 will now be: In addition, Guy Varndell will continue in the role of Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator for 2020. Nerrilee Pansini has been been appointed to the role of LEC Co-ordinator. Congratulations to our prize winners, and to Stewart House for winning the inaugural Junior School House Cup! Thank you to all of our families and special guests who joined us on the night. Staff FarewellsAs we approach the end of the year, I would like to acknowledge the following staff who are leaving:
We sincerely thank these staff members for their wonderful contributions to the Junior School and wish them all the very best for the future. Welcoming Back StaffIn 2020, we welcome back a number of staff to classroom positions, including, Ayomi Perera, Anita Roy, Rosalea Wallace, Carey Bouwer and Aleasha Franetovich. Alison Viney moves into the Library as she looks to support the Inquiries, and reading and literature in the Junior School. Jenny Rickwood will also be returning from Long Service Leave and resume her role as Deputy Head of Junior School – Teaching and Learning. Congratulations to our Year 1 Teacher, Sophiya Wallace, who is getting married over the Christmas holidays. Extend After-School Care 2020As a result of very low demand for the Extend After-School Care programme, PLC Perth has made the decision that it is no longer viable to continue to financially support the service in 2020. This comes after a consultation process with Junior School families, facilitated by the Head of Junior School, Richard Wright. Families impacted by the decision have been contacted with information about alternative after-school programmes available nearby. Extend will continue to offer Vacation Care at PLC until the end of December. The School has a long and proud history of offering co-curricular activities that are age-specific (for PLC students aged from Kindergarten to Year 12) and is complimentary to our curriculum. An example of the activities being offered this term can be seen here. We continually review and refresh these programmes and are pleased to advise that due to the high demand and interest, Junior School co-curricular activities will run until 5.00 pm next year. If you have any further questions, please contact Director of Governance and Strategic Projects, Karen Taylor, on 9424 6402. - Richard Wright, Head of Junior School Support Your Daughter Evenings 2020Please note the dates below in your diary for next year.
