Real Superheroes Wear Sunflowers: The Jess Collins StoryWhen the invitation came to commentate all the action at the recent Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, Jess Collins didn’t think twice before accepting. After having a ball on the mic at the State Champs, the Redhead SLSC competitor was found to be a natural at calling all the race action and bringing her magic to Aussies was the obvious next step. Lifesavers Conclude Season With 3,500 RescuesThe 2018/19 Surf Life Saving patrol season came to an end on 28 April. All 129 surf clubs in NSW lowered their flags for the final time until September. There were a number of significant rescues this season that involved our volunteers going above and beyond to preserve life. 2019 Junior Lifesavers Of The Year AnnouncedSurf Life Saving NSW has announced its 30th Junior Lifesavers of the Year. Ainsley Dalton from Woolgoolga SLSC and Mikala Campbell from Ballina Lighthouse & Lismore SLSC have been presented with the coveted award for 2018/19. Surfer Safety Series: Episode Four - Is This Surfing's Most Important Skill?The Surfer Safety Series hosted by Newport SLSC's Nick Carroll is an introduction to taking the first steps to help save a life for surfers. The six part series breaks down surfboard rescues and basic CPR for surfers. Mass Rescue Of 40 People Wins Rescue AwardA mass rescue of any kind is a big operation for a patrol to manage. On 17 February 40 people fell victim to being swept off a sandbar suddenly at North Cronulla. In a single moment what seemed like a perfect day at the beach could have ended in tragedy. AIS Selects Surf Boat Coach To Lead The Way For Women's SportNSW’s only current female surf boat sweep says other sports have a lot to learn from Surf Life Saving. Rebecca Hamilton from South Maroubra SLSC is the proud owner of a hard-fought for and highly-sought after medal from the Aussies. Clubs Cash In On RecyclingSurf Life Saving NSW partnered with Envirobank to help your local surf club and our environment through the recycling of eligible containers. The initiative has been adopted by over 50 clubs in NSW to raise reliable, valued funds and keep the local community clean. Saving A Life At 13In late December 2018, Doug Hawkins led one of the largest Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) courses in the country at Coogee SLSC. Among the 84-strong squad of new lifesavers were two 13 year-olds, Ginevra Aiello and Amelie Filippi. South Curl Curl Inaugural Short Course ChampionsA new, exciting short course version of traditional surf boat racing may be here to stay after a successful debut at the 2019 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships held on the Gold Coast earlier this month. |
