Kaya (hello) reader,

Workplace rehabilitation providers are at the heart of injury management in the WA workers' compensation scheme. By addressing risk factors which may impact a successful return to work, workplace rehabilitation providers translate functional gains into a meaningful pathway to recovery for injured workers.

For the past few months we’ve been working hard to develop two new products to support workplace rehabilitation providers in our scheme:

  • Workplace Rehabilitation Provider Capability Framework
  • Foundations of Workers' Compensation: Workplace Rehabilitation Providers

These products are a key element of our commitment to strengthening our stakeholders and addressing industry needs in Western Australia. Read on to find out more about our free launch event, Rehab in Motion, which we’ve planned specifically for workplace rehabilitation industry professionals.

Workplace Rehabilitation Provider Capability Framework

We’ve designed the Workplace Rehabilitation Providers Capability Framework to guide and develop the skills and knowledge of rehabilitation professionals.

The Capability Framework translates the WRP Principles and Standards of Practice into observable behaviours and outcomes. Service providers can use the Capability Framework to evaluate their performance against the key competencies required for their role.

Foundations of Workers' Compensation: Workplace Rehabilitation Providers

Foundations of Workers’ Compensation: Workplace Rehabilitation Providers is an online learning program for rehabilitation providers working within the workers’ compensation and injury management scheme.

This free online course is designed to assist those working in the WRP space to improve their knowledge of workers’ compensation and develop the skills they require to optimise their performance and client service delivery.

Do you work in a ‘noisy’ workplace?

Noise Induced Hearing Loss

If you work in a ‘noisy’ workplace where you receive a personal noise dose of 90dB(A) or higher, it is compulsory for your employer to arrange and pay for hearing tests for you. This is about the level of noise created by an idling heavy motor truck at a distance of one meter.

Testing is also required if you are exposed to levels of 140dB(lin) at any time, which is equivalent to a mid to high calibre firearm firing next to your ear.

If your tests indicate a significant hearing loss, you can potentially make a claim for compensation.

World Day for Safety and Health at Work

28 April 2023

Friday 28 April was World Day for Safety and Health at Work and International Commemoration Day for Dead and Injured Workers. The day provides an opportunity to reflect on ways to prevent occupational deaths and injuries, as well as to remember those who have died from a work-related injury or illness.

Part of our role is overseeing claims made by dependents of workers who have died as a result of a work-related injury. For advice and assistance about dependency claims we encourage you to contact us on 1300 794 744.
