SumUp, a London-based provider of financial tools for small businesses, picked up a €590 million (over $620 million) equity and debt investment, bringing the company’s valuation up to €8 billion. Led by Bain Capital Tech Opportunities, the round included participation from funds managed by BlackRock, btov Partners, Centerbridge Partners, Crestline Investors, Fin Capital, Sentinel Dome Partners and others.
Personio GmbH, a Munich-based human-resources software provider for small- and medium-sized businesses, added $200 million in Series E funding, bringing the round total to $470 million. Greenoaks Capital Partners led the latest tranche, which gives Personio a valuation of $8.5 billion. Investors including Greenoaks, Index Ventures, Accel, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Northzone provided the initial Series E tranche back in October.
Electric Hydrogen, a San Carlos, Calif.- and Natick, Mass.-based startup developing new technology for fossil-free hydrogen systems, landed $198 million in Series B equity and debt. Fifth Wall led the round, which included contributributions from S2G Ventures, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Capricorn Partners, Energy Impact Partners, Prelude Ventures, Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund, Equinor Ventures and others. Lenders Silicon Valley Bank and Trinity Capital also supported the investment.
Zap Energy Inc., a Seattle-based fusion energy startup, grabbed $160 million in Series C funding led by Lowercarbon Capital. New investors including Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Shell Ventures, DCVC and Valor Equity Partners also participated, along with previous backers Addition, Energy Impact Partners and Chevron Technology Ventures.
Ataccama Corp., a Toronto-based data management platform, scored a $150 million growth capital investment from Bain Capital Tech Opportunities, giving the firm a minority stake.
Prime Trust LLC, a Las Vegas-based financial infrastructure provider to the digital economy, secured more than $100 million in Series B financing from investors including FIS, Fin Capital, Mercato Partners, Kraken Ventures, Commerce Ventures, William Blair & Co., Decasonic, University Growth Fund, Gaingels, GateCap Ventures and Seven Peaks Ventures.
Mojia Biotech, a Shanghai-based biomanufacturing company focusing on the sustainable production of food ingredients and chemical materials, completed an $80 million Series B round. Temasek led the investment, which included additional support from LYZZ Capital, Bits x Bites and Asia Green Fund.
Ledger Investing Inc., a New York-based insurtech startup, fetched $75 million in Series B funding. Lead investor WestCap was joined by Teachers’ Venture Growth, Intact Ventures, SignalFire, MassMutual Ventures, Allegis Capital and Accel in the round. Jeff Mullen, partner at WestCap, will join the company’s board.
Gearset, a Salesforce DevOps startup, closed a $55 million growth investment led by Silversmith Capital Partners.
Amogy Inc., a Brooklyn, N.Y.-based startup developing a novel carbon-free energy system using ammonia as a fuel, snagged a $46 million investment. Led by SK Innovation, the funding included support from Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund, AP Ventures, Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures and Newlab.
Glowforge Inc., a Seattle-based 3D laser printer maker, obtained $43 million in Series E funding. Lead investor DFJ Growth was joined by Foundry Group, True Ventures and Revolution Growth in the round.
Appsmith, a San Francisco- and India-based developer of open-source, low-code software that helps developers build internal tools, secured $41 million in Series B financing. Insight Partners led the round, which included contributions from Accel, Canaan, OSS Capital and others.
JobGet, a Boston-based mobile app for hourly workers, collected $40 million in Series B funding and $12 million in debt. JAZZ Venture Partners and Sanabil Investments co-led the round, which saw participation from Pillar VC and others. In addition to the investment, JobGet appointed Ryan Eberhard as the company’s new president. He was previously chief product officer at ZipRecruiter.
