Contents Season 2019 is opening with a bang!Mt Hotham is kicking off the start of winter 2019 with an incredible snowfall of 91cm in the two-week lead-up to the season opening. The positive run-up to the season start is creating high hopes for a third consecutive bumper season for snow lovers, and with a current base of over half a metre, the Audi Quattro will be spinning a day early on Friday 7 June. Visitors can enjoy an extra day of skiing without incurring resort entry fees until Saturday 8th June, though the resort will be running a limited Village bus service on Friday 8 June. With the bus operating on Friday, loading zone restrictions will apply all day Friday and will be enforced. However other seasonal parking restrictions will apply from 4pm Friday. Looking forward to a good 2019 season With consistent snow conditions thanks to high-tech snowmaking complementing natural snowfall, a winter holiday at the only Victorian alpine resort at the top of a mountain is better than ever. In 2019, visitors can look forward to exciting new food and beverage options, with the iconic Joyce Brockhoff Hut in the Heavenly Valley area open for business for the first time, and the Frankie operators taking over the Arco site with the new Restaurant at Jack Frost. People looking for a truly unique outdoor experience can try the first and only igloo village in Australia, delivered by Alpine Nature Experience. Tobogganing will still be a popular activity at Mt Hotham’s toboggan and snow play areas, easily accessed on the free Village shuttle’s new fleet of Mercedes Benz buses with low floors and electric wheelchair ramps, making access easier for all visitors. This means guests can list multiple vehicles on their accounts and switch their day or multi-day pass to a different vehicle up to an hour prior to entering the resort. Guests will also be able to change the dates on their day or multi-day resort entry permit themselves if plans change, providing a new level of self-service convenience. Mt Hotham's Street Library trialIn case you haven’t yet noticed, we are trialling a Street Library here at Mt Hotham. It's a great little initiative started in 2015 by Australian Nic Lowe, who wanted to build an Australian-based free library movement that encouraged literacy and community. How does it work? Easy - it's like 'book karma'. Take a book - free! You can swap it for one of yours, or just take it, no drama, we know another will come to take its place. When you're done, put it back, or pass it on to someone else. If you have a book you want to donate, feel free! Ours in down in the Transit Station, and we're hoping that people will find it useful for those evenings when they just want to snuggle up in front of the fire with a good book and a mulled wine, but they don't actually have that book. We’ll be asking for feedback to see whether it’s worth continuing. It looks a bit bland but we’re looking at getting proper signage. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please get in touch! |
