ABLS joins QALEN
The Quality Assurance in Language Education Network continues to grow. The latest member is ABLS Accreditation, which joins NEAS, FELTOM, ENZ and ACCET as a quality assurance service, and is approved for the purpose of accrediting private education providers recruiting visa students to the United Kingdom. Involvement with QALEN is via an expression of interest, completion of a mapping exercise that confirms alignment across quality principles and standards and commitment to a Memorandum of Understanding. Upon being welcomed to QALEN, Executive Director of ABLS Diana Lowe
expressed how the “ABLS team is very pleased to have joined QALEN” and is “looking forward to working with” the other members at the 3rd Quality Symposium to being hosted by FELTOM in Malta this September.

NEAS delivers seminars on ELT Quality Assurance with TAFE Directors for Chinese Leadership Delegation
Chief Executive Officer of NEAS Mark Raven spent an hour meeting with leadership representatives from key Chinese vocational education institutions in mid-March, in an event hosted by Peter Holden and TAFE Directors. As a nation, China is investing heavily in ensuring its student population is learning English, in that it might effectively engage with global commercial markets where English has become the lingua franca. Discussions around “what is quality” and “how can quality be measured” provided fascinating insights to a world of large ELT classes that make extensive use of group work, technology and pre-class screening to overcome the local challenges associated with larger class sizes.

Quality English teaching colleges are protected against copyright infringement in Australia and Asia
Do you know what any of your teachers or trainers are doing in the classroom? Are you aware that it is the organisation and not the teacher who is liable should any copyright infringement occur?
English language colleges can now rely on the Copyright Agency licence which allows institutions to copy portions of published material to students in Australia and Asia. It is seeking further expansion of coverage to other international markets.
If your teachers are copying or communicating “third party material” to your students and staff, they may be breaching copyright laws. A Copyright Agency licence is an easy means of risk management for your college whilst complying with copyright laws. It allows
• Compliance/risk management
• Freedom and flexibility
• Convenience and ease
