  • U.K. retailers Marks & Spencer, Co-op and Harrods have reported cyberattacks in the past few weeks. Marks & Spencer and Co-op said customer information was breached and both are dealing with ongoing fallout, including downed tech systems and disruptions in inventory.
  • U.S. retailers are also being targeted by the same group—known as Scattered Spider—that appears to have hit Marks & Spencer, Google cybersecurity researchers said Wednesday. "These actors are aggressive, creative, and particularly effective at circumventing mature security programs," said John Hultquist, chief analyst at Google's threat-intelligence unit.

Steel maker Nucor halted production at certain factories as it investigates a cybersecurity incident, the company said Wednesday in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor detected unauthorized access to its systems and took some potentially affected tech offline.

The Trump administration has ditched a Biden-era plan to stop data brokers from selling consumers' personal data. Russell Vought, acting director of a reorganized Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said the plan doesn't jibe with the bureau's interpretation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. (TechCrunch)
