The next competition is on Saturday April 7th.  Registration is at 7:30am.  Please try to be on time so we only have to sort out the heats once. :-)

We will be providing a yummy breakfast once again so please remember to bring your Keep Cup and cutlery.

We would also like to ask you 'take three for the sea' and pick up three pieces of rubbish with you when you leave. Every little helps!

The green room

This is where we introduce you to two of your teammates...

Christine. A lovely new member...

How long have you been surfing?
I dipped my toes in the water about 10 years ago but looking to get serious now.

Most memorable surf moment?
About 18 mths ago I was showing a friend around Bondi. We went surfing at North Bondi and a pod of dolphins turned up. We were just sitting out there on our foamies and Bondi really turned it on for us and it was absolutely gorgeous. Don’t think we caught any waves but it was definitely memorable.

Your surfing goal for this year?
Advance a bit and gain more confidence, and keep charging.

Fun fact about yourself?
I just want to keep smiling and enjoy the friends I meet through BGSR.

A big welcome to the club Christine! Great to have you on board (pardon the pun) .

Danielle. An oldie but a very goodie...

How long have you been a member?
It's my third this year.

Favourite thing about the club?
Monthly surf comps. Being at the beach,  surrounded by women who share the same passion.  It's just a very nice vibe.

Most memorable club moment?
Probably the last Christmas social where everyone was dressed as a pirate, surfing. A lot of us were freezing and shivering but still got pretty fun waves.

Fun fact about yourself?
I went to brunch with friends in a busy cafe in Cronulla. While waiting for our food I decided to go to the balcony overlooking the beach. I was walking slowly, then "bang!", I hit the glass door. I pretended I was okay (despite the pain) and carried on. Embarrassing.

Welcome back for another year Danielle!

1 ½ cups cheese grated
1 cup bacon rashers finely chopped

Pour into a 24 cm quiche dish, or muffin tin

Bon appetite!

The impact zone

Tight calf muscles can cause pain and limit ankle motion. It's important to stretch them so you can keep frothing!

Soleus Stretch
Position yourself facing a wall. Place your hands on the wall about shoulder high and shoulder-width apart. Place your feet shoulder-width apart. Allow your front and back knees to bend slightly. Keep your back heel attached to the surface of the floor.

You should feel a comfortable pulling in your back leg in your calf muscle belly. Hold each stretch for 30 seconds. Repeat 4 times. You can do these nearly daily as comfortably tolerated on both sides.

DISCLAIMER: THIS STRETCH IS NOT MEANT TO BE PHYSICAL THERAPY TREATMENT. DO NOT CONTINUE STRETCH IF PAINFUL/UNCOMFORTABLE. IF YOU HAVE ANY ANKLE PATHOLOGY HISTORY (SPRAINS, FRACTURES, ETC), PLEASE CONSULT WITH YOUR HEALTHCARE PROVIDER BEFORE PROCEEDING. DO NOT DO THIS STRETCH IF YOU'VE HAD SURGERY IN THE LOWER EXTREMITY WITHOUT CONSULTING WITH YOUR HEALTHCARE PROVIDER.  Credit: http://www.surfstronger.com/tips/ViewTip/22

International Woman's Day

Congratulations to our major sponsor, Lets Go Surfing, for making the International Women's Day Event at Bondi Beach such a success.  Not only was it a really fun morning, but the event raised a phenomenal $3200 for Dress for Success, a charity helping women in need.

The SurfAid Cup

On Friday 18th May, four of our fantastic junior members will be competing in the SurfAid Cup.

In relay style, Laila Rich, Ebony Conrick, Sarah Lucantonio and Lucy Graham (you rippers) will have to catch two waves, with each surfer's second wave worth double points.

Each team is made up of four amateurs and one pro!  The team that raises the most money will get the first pick from the impressive line-up of pros and local legends.

Let's help get our girls the pick of the pros!

Surf gear you don't need?

Do you have an old surfboard (preferably shortboard or soft-top) that you might be able to part with?  Or other stuff like fins, leg-ropes, hand-boards, swim-fins, boardies, t-shirts, booties, rashies etc.? We, here in Oz, are throwing away gear that our fellow surfers in Papua New Guinea would love to use.

Grass Skirt Project is collecting donated goods with the next shipment due at the end of March.

If you have anything you think might be of use, please contact the good folk at the Grass Skirt Project.
