Dear colleague,

The Center for Education Innovations (CEI) cordially invites you to attend a one-day hands-on workshop on putting evidence-based approaches to work in your efforts to improving student learning.

Date: Monday, 9 May

Time: 9:00am – 5:00pm

Location: Fairview Hotel, Bishop Road, Nairobi

What is the focus of the workshop?

There is emerging evidence on the effectiveness of certain education interventions to improve early learning in developing countries. One of these is Teacher Coaching, an approach which helps teachers improve with ongoing support tailored to their individual strengths and weaknesses.

The Early Learning Toolkit has been developed to help practitioners use Teacher Coaching and other evidence-based strategies in their programs. The workshop will give participants time to explore the toolkit, and then work in groups to develop plans for integrating or further developing the use of innovative approaches in their programs. Participants will share experiences implementing strategies like Teacher Coaching in the past, and will together troubleshoot roadblocks to successful implementation.

Participants will also have time to learn more about CEI's Early Learning Toolkit, including tools related to:

What can you learn?

Workshop discussions will center around the following questions:

  • What is the evidence behind the learning strategies in the Early Learning Toolkit?
  • How can we incorporate strategies like Teacher Coaching into our programs?
  • What are some of the roadblocks to uptake and implementation of Teacher Coaching? How can they be overcome given the constraints we face?
  • What practical tools can you recommend related to these topics?
  • How can the Early Learning Toolkit be improved to be a useful resource to practitioners?

Who else will be there?

This one-day gathering will bring together, by invitation only, educators and practitioners who are working to improve learning outcomes for primary and pre-primary students. Funders, policymakers and other stakeholders who are in a position to promote the uptake of evidence-based strategies will also attend the workshop.

What else should you know?

Breakfast, lunch, and break-time refreshments will be served.

A small number of transportation stipends will be available. Please contact Ivy Namdiero to learn more.
