The Great Alone in paperback, tour dates, a contest, and film and television news No Images? Click here Happy August to all...Wow, the summer sure has flown by! It’s amazing how fast time flies when you’re having fun. The weather here in Seattle has been beautiful. My husband and I have been trying to spend as much time as possible in the backyard, enjoying the weather with friends and family. But lots has happened at Casa Hannah in the last few months, so I thought I’d check in and give you all the news that’s fit to print. This has been a big year for travel. First, I did a FABULOUS book event in Athens. Wow! What a city. The Acropolis truly takes your breath away. Honestly, I expected just a few folks to show up for the book event, but the venue was full! We had a blast talking about books and writing and reading. Booklovers are booklovers around the world, and we all immediately have something in common. I also signed books in Milan. I was literally a block from the world famous Milan Duomo. It’s a little surreal for a Seattle girl… My Greek publishers Athens Book Signing in Greece Signing in Milan Reading in Italy... Loved this book! The Duomo in Milan In June, I went to one of my favorite places in the world — yes, The Great Alaska Adventure Lodge. As most of you know, it’s the family business, and my love for Alaska inspired me to write The Great Alone. There’s nothing I love more than sitting on the banks of the turquoise blue Kenai River, reading a book and watching the fish jump. I love catch-and-release fishing, but even more, I love hanging with family and friends. We went to Homer — I try to never miss that stop — and walked from shop to shop, and of course, we had a drink at the world famous Salty Dawg Saloon. You all would have loved it! It’s so fun to see the setting of The Great Alone come alive… Here are some photos from the trip. You can see a new video about the camp here. I really do fish! At Skilak Lake with my dad From there we headed to the beautiful Canadian Gulf Islands, which are between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia. There was limited Wi-Fi and phone and no TV, and as a result it was very, very relaxing. My husband loves boating and indulged in that, while I enjoyed every moment of sitting in the sun reading. Pure joy! A harbor in the Gulf Islands Love the solitude in the Gulf Islands While I was away...Of course, while I was out of touch and far away, the world keeps moving and life keeps happening. The good news for you guys is that there was lots of book and movie news unfolding. I get lots of questions about the various adaptations in the works, and usually I have no answers. Hollywood works at its own speed and in its own way. Honestly, it’s exciting and frustrating, but I love how invested my readers are, and as soon as I have real news, I share it. So, here goes… First, The Great Alone will FINALLY be out in paperback on Tuesday, September 24th! The day before my birthday. 😊 I know many of you have been waiting, especially book clubs. I will be doing a short tour when the book comes out — to Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama and California. All of these stops are new to me, so I’m really excited. I hope some of you can come out and meet me. You can find out dates, times, and find any last-minute changes to the schedule on my website page here. For any of you who have been waiting for the paperback to read The Great Alone with your book group, here’s a reminder that the book discussion guide may be found here. Post a photo of your group reading The Great Alone on Facebook or Instagram and tag me! If you enjoy audiobooks, I am happy to share that The Great Alone was an Audies Finalist in the Fiction category. If you’ve been thinking about trying to listen to the book, I recommend you give it a try. Actress Julia Whelan did an absolutely FABULOUS job narrating the story. Firefly Lane is Headed to NetflixAnd — drumroll, please — I am happy to share that Firefly Lane is headed to Netflix for a 10-episode series. Katherine Heigl, who you may know from "Grey’s Anatomy," is set to both star and executive produce the series as Tully. Actress Sarah Chalke is our Kate, and Australian actor Ben Lawson has been cast as Johnny Ryan. IT’S GETTING REAL!!!! We do not have an air date yet, but shooting is starting this fall in Vancouver. For those who are not familiar with Firefly Lane, it’s the story of two friends, Tully and Kate, from the time they meet as tweens in 1974 to the present day. Kate is shy and introverted, while Tully is cool and extroverted. They form a bond that brings them on a journey, weathering the storms of friendship — jealousy, anger, hurt, resentment. They think they’ve survived it all until a single act of betrayal tears them apart…and puts their courage and friendship to the ultimate test. A Contest to CelebrateTo celebrate this television news, here’s a contest. I am giving away 5 copies of Firefly Lane, so you can get reading ahead of the series airing. Enter here by Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 11:59 PM EDT for your chance to win one. Please note that this contest is only open to readers in the United States. More About The Nightingale
