From the Principal...

A very warm welcome back to all our students and families. I trust you had a good break and that all our boys and girls are ready to return refreshed and enthusiastic. I remind all families that school begins for students on Wednesday 20 July. Parents would have received reports electronically at the end of last term. It is always useful to sit with your child and reflect on the semester that has been. It is also very useful to help them to set the tone for the semester to come. Talk with them about their achievements and importantly areas of focus for the upcoming term.

The Year 6 students from Beechboro Christian School and Ellenbrook Christian College leave for the Sydney/Canberra trip in the early hours of Monday morning. This promises to be an exciting and educational trip for the students. We wish them a safe journey.

I would like to congratulate Bradley Gordon on being selected to attend the MWA Elite Jet Camp, a specialist camp for motorcycle sports. To be selected is indeed a fantastic achievement and recognition of the young man’s talent. We are very proud of Bradley.

We welcome our new Design and Technology teacher Bruce Richards and Melissa Argus who replaces our Director of Music, Louise Blooms who goes on maternity leave. We look forward to the contributions they will make to the College.

Primary School News

From the Head of Primary...

Welcome back to school for Term 3! I trust you enjoyed a break from the school morning rush, spending quality family time with your children.

This term is a busy one for our Physical Education staff. In addition to our Extra-Curricular Sports Program (commencing Week 3) there are two Primary and one Secondary Inter-house Athletics Carnivals to plan and run, along with the Cross Country Carnivals. As is always the case, we welcome parents to come along and support their children at these events. The College Calendar on our website is a great place to find all the dates you need to put in your calendar. This resource is regularly updated so be sure to check this.

Some other key events occurring this term are the College Open Afternoon and the Primary Musical Production of ‘Cinderella Rockefeller’. The Open Afternoon is an opportunity for parents and members of the community to tour the school, appreciate student work and enjoy performances including dance, drama and musical items. The Open Afternoon is on Wednesday 30 August from 3:30pm to 6:30pm and will be followed by the Primary Musical at 6:30pm in the Gymnasium.

The College will communicate further details about each of these events in the coming weeks.

Staffing
One of our Primary Physical Education teachers, Mrs Nadine Whitehead, will be covering the role of Mr John Taylor (Secondary Physical Education) while he is away on long service leave. Mrs Caroline Le Count will be joining Mrs Katie Clayton in Primary Physical Education in Mrs Whitehead’s absence.

We are looking forward to partnering with you, as our school community enjoys all that this term has to offer.

Secondary School News

From the Head of Secondary...

Welcome back all of our students for what should be an exciting semester, full of opportunity.

It is these opportunities which I would like all of our students to consider and take hold of or 'catch' (just like Pokemon!). Apart from the privileged opportunity to undertake a secondary education (and it is a privilege considering the number of children who do not receive an education around the world), the prospects at our College are endless. There are opportunities in classes to take on the challenging questions presented; to take part in co-curricular arts, sports and other activities; to ask for assistance when it is needed by attending tutoring; to help and support peers by the way we interact. The long list of possibilities is one thing, taking up those opportunities is another. Making the most of these occasions as they present themselves, has the potential to pay off for students across their lifetime. I would hope our students don’t let these valuable prospects pass them by, even though at times seizing the moment can be difficult.

You will have received a letter from me outlining some expectations in relation to students uniform, appearance and phone use in Semester 2. This provides students with an opportunity (that word again) to correct any small issues or habits that may have slowly crept in during Semester 1. I have spoken to all students about this at our final assembly of Term 3 and these standards and expectations are important aspects of our College which build student pride, respect for self and also allow students to focus on what is important, learning!

On behalf of all of the Secondary staff, I wish all of our students the very best for Semester 2.

Jordan Smith
Head of Secondary School

Years 10, 11 and 12 | University Information Sessions

University is just one pathway that students can take following their Secondary schooling. We encourage parents and students to explore the many opportunities available by visiting the different university websites and/or Facebook pages. Many of the Universities have Open Days or information sessions over the next few months and these may assist your child in finding their pathway following Secondary School.
