Diana Fox Carney and Mark Carney explored the tensions between economic and environmental values at our latest, inspiring Speaker Series event.

We will soon be launching our ‘Class of' bursaries inviting alumnae to make small, regular donations to support a bursary award. Contact us if your year group would be interested in this initiative, or if you would like to lead a ‘class of' bursary.

Congratulations to our alumnae who continue to achieve career success across all sectors, including alumna Naomi Ishiguro who published her first book 'Common Ground' this week. 

This term we conducted a Flair survey with staff and students to review our understanding of race; award-winning architect and GDST alumna Elsie Owusu OBE spoke to students on why diversity and inclusion matters: and our on-going curriculum review focused on the music department.

Thank you to alumna Betty Spector (class of 1939) who told us her memories of South Hampstead during the 1930s:  from performing in school plays, to being awarded a scholarship to the Neighbourhood Playhouse in New York and spending the war years in Long Island.

We are sad to announce that former headmistress Mrs Sheila Wiltshire OBE recently passed away, aged 96.

Mrs Wiltshire was the head of South Hampstead High School from 1969 until 1974.

At the start of our third lockdown in January, our pen pal scheme helped connect current students and alumnae.

In light of recent media stories, our latest blog post from Senior Deputy Head Zoë Brass, reflects on how best to equip young people to navigate their early relationships. Zoë heads up the pastoral programme at SHHS.

Our former bursary students Datshaine Navanayagam, Amanda de Winter and Lola Bursari have helped us to establish a mentoring scheme for pupils on fee-assisted places. They will support pupils from their application and throughout their school life.

Thanks to alumna Emily Burton (class of 2015), South Hampstead now has a new partnership with FEAST With Us, a charity that helps to alleviate food poverty in the local community and raise awareness of food and plastic waste.

South Hampstead's 365 Club encourages pupils and staff to commit to environmental resolutions for a whole year. For her pledge, Headmistress Vicky Bingham has challenged herself to run 1000 miles and raise money for The Woodland Trust’s 1000 Woods Appeal.

On its first anniversary, Waterlow Hall is shortlisted for the Architects’ Journal Retrofit Awards 2021.
