Hello neighbor, I’m Brett, Lift UP’s Community Engagement Manager. I am typically behind the scenes, ensuring that Lift UP stays connected to clients, volunteers, and donors, making certain our community continues to support each other in every way possible. Since Lift UP is committed to continue services without disruption and despite uncertainty, I have found myself building our community… virtually. The most heart-warming part for me is how the community has rallied together. Local businesses and organizations are stepping up to be of service. And most importantly, perhaps, there is a very tangible conversation about food access on a national level. It’s been awe inspiring, for myself and hopefully for everyone. To me, community building is about engagement, connection, and action. Whether that’s donating to Lift UP to ensure essential food services can continue, reconnecting with friends across the country (or globe), checking in on neighbors, showing gratitude to medical providers and front line workers, waving at strangers (from a safe distance), or encouraging a loved one who is isolated… every action counts. There are a few ways in which to contribute from the safety of your own home, while acquiring the essentials we all need to survive. Did you know that when you make purchases through Amazon Smile and Fred Meyer Community Rewards a percentage of your purchase goes to support Lift UP at no cost to you? - Sign up to use Amazon Smile here. The love and support Lift UP has seen over the last few weeks has been astounding. Each day I am in awe of the ways the community has stepped up and asked how we can work together to ensure everyone has access to essential items. My respect and appreciation for everyone continues to grow each day. We truly are a community- in Portland, in the USA, and as a world. We acknowledge that many of us are living in the present, ensuring our loved ones are safe and healthy. This is the most important thing we can do to move past this pandemic. Truly, |
