Principal's Message

NAPLAN GROWTH

Hastings Secondary College is showing encouraging signs of strong improvement following the release of the 2019 NAPLAN results. I congratulate all the students and staff for their hard work, including the parents for entrusting their children’s education at this great campus.

There has been a positive growth in all areas across Years 7 – 9, shown by exceptional ‘writing’ results in Year 9 with the cohort well above the state average. I believe the recent success can be attributed to:

  • Intensive support provided to students in greatest need
  • Literacy focus across all Key Learning Areas, including “I Write”
  • The use of critical and creative thinking skills and learning objectives have also resulted in higher engagement among the students resulting in increased outcomes.
  • Professional Learning with a targeted approach that ensures all students have the opportunity to achieve at Hastings Secondary College.

We have made some significant changes in the way we work together to ensure all students successfully build on what we were already doing at the campus and developing more consistent approaches to programs across the college.
