Another BIG Weekend It’s been a very big weekend for Cheshire Young Carers with some of our adult young carers in the Yorkshire Dales enjoying isolation and adventure. On Friday night Cheshire Young Carers were represented at the Charity Awards in Manchester and we won! Plus it was two days of filming for our specially commissioned short film about the life of a young carer. Team YAC head North Natural Retreats once again very kindly hosted ‘Team YAC’, this time in their stunning Yorkshire Dales eco lodges! The weather of Storm Callum might have soaked the group but it did not dampen their enthusiasm! The group took part in some team building challenges, improving their confidence, communication skills and perseverance, then returned to warm lodges with hot chocolate for a few hours of downtime. The group then ate out at a local Italian restaurant, chatting about the day and enjoying the ambience of the restaurant, followed by a games night (and more hot chocolate!). After making their breakfast and a packed lunch, the group then went to the very quirky Forbidden Corner, exploring the mazes, scary mausoleums, water features that randomly soak passers by and then a chance to have lunch together and reflect on a great weekend. Another successful trip for Team YAC! Thank you to Natural Retreats and Cheshire Scouts for making this weekend possible. Highly Commended This was a first attempt at an award at the Northwest Charity Awards for Cheshire Young Carers so we are delighted to announce that we received a Highly Commended award in the “Small Charity, Big Impact” category beating 16 other charities. Our submission was based on our YAC (young adult carers) programme specifically designed to support young carers approaching adult status. The programme offers activities to build confidence, resilience and independence amongst this very special group of young people. It also features our “In To Work” initiative aiming to raise aspiration amongst our young carers. It' a WRAP! As part of an initiative to show the amazing work of young carers from across Cheshire a specially written drama film has been commissioned based on the true life stories of Young Carers in Cheshire. The script has been created by Peter Cox who has a background of writing TV dramas and the production company Baker Media, again have worked in TV for many years. The filming took place over two days at a number of locations and it proved to be an emotional few days for all those involved. The film will have its premiere at a special event on 7 November after which it will become a key part of the support work we do in schools demonstrating that young carers really are super heroes. Made possible with funding from Cheshire Community Foundation in partnership with Big Lottery Fund, DCMS and the #iwill campaign, facilities from Middlewich High School, actors from LIPA in Liverpool and the sheer brilliance of the script writer and production company. |
