Fabry Attends International Law Conference
On October 19-22, Associate Professor Mikulas Fabry attended an International Law Association conference of its US branch in New York City. As part of a panel exploring international responses to conflicts over statehood, Prof. Fabry gave a presentation titled “Who Ought to be Recognized as a Sovereign State?” The entire program of the conference can be found here.

Bowman Presents Documentary at Munk School
Nunn School Professor Kirk Bowman was at the Munk School of Global Affairs in Toronto on Wednesday, October 25th, presenting his documentary Bad' & the Birdieman. The film is about children from a favela in Rio de Janeiro, who are using badminton to escape drug and violence. The documentary was filmed by Rise Up & Care, a nonprofit he co-founded with Jon Wilcox, CEO, and Director of California Republic Bank. Read the Munk School’s piece on Professor Bowman here.

On Friday, October 27th, The Ivan Allen College hosted it’s annual Family Weekend. There were approximately 40 EIA, IAML, and INTA families in attendance. The event was an opportunity for families to meet our faculty and staff.

Craig Lesser receives the 2017 Georgia International Award for Lifetime Achievement
Craig Lesser, Nunn School Advisory Board Member, is the recipient of the 2017 Georgia International Award for Lifetime Achievement. The Atlanta Business Chronicle, Georgia Department of Economic Development and World Trade Center Atlanta presented the award. Lesser is currently the Managing Partner of the Pendleton Group, a partnership providing strategy and counsel in the areas of government affairs and economic development. From 2004 to 2007, he served as the Commissioner of Economic Development for the state of Georgia, where he directed efforts to expand existing

Alumni Homecoming Happy Hour
On Friday, October 20th, the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs hosted it’s first Alumni Homecoming Happy Hour. There were approximately 25 alums, graduate students, guests, faculty, and staff who attended. Two of the attendees were from the class of 1992 and 1993. The event was an opportunity to network and catch up with former classmates. A warm thank you to our alumni, Chair Joe Bankoff, and Associate Professor Peter Brecke for attending.
Kosal Recognized as Georgia Power Professor of Excellence
Margaret E. Kosal, associate professor in the Ivan Allen College Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, was featured as the Georgia Power Professor of Excellence during Georgia Tech’s home football game against University of North Carolina on September 30, 2017.
Georgia Tech Model United Nations Hosts Conference
The Georgia Tech Model United Nations (GTMUN) hosted its annual two-day conference for high school students this past 9th and 10th of October. The conference was held on Georgia Tech's campus at Scheller College of Business with approximately 900 students participating.
Georgia Tech Community Comes Together for Puerto Rico
Students from the Puerto Rican Student Association (PRiSA) along with faculty and staff at Georgia Tech helped collect donations for Puerto Rico. Marilu Suarez, administrative professional in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, helped coordinate logistics to fasten the process. The donations amounted to 300 boxes and 156 cases of water collected for a total of 9670 lbs. On October 14th, students helped load 13 pallets to a truck. The items were flown to Puerto Rico the following Sunday by Delta. If you would like to
