Lift Urban Portland's Monthly eNewsletter

Dear Neighbor,

The month of February was busy at Preston’s Pantry! Because of the government shutdown, we saw attendance increase noticeably. Of those whom we provided food in February, 15% were new to Lift UP's services. When it was announced February SNAP benefits would be released weeks earlier than scheduled, people throughout the community felt the pressure of being able to obtain enough food to get by for the rest of the month.

“It’s the only time I’ve ever seen people rushing to get into the pantry. You could tell people were nervous about it," noted Teresa, the manager at Preston’s Pantry.

While Preston’s Pantry serves the neighborhoods in Northwest and Downtown Portland, many residents from outside of our service area inquired about coming to get food. Calls only increased as the month went on, many of which were from people using the Street Roots Rose City Resource Guide to locate food resources.

Fortunately, with support from Oregon Food Bank, as well as Amazon Prime,
Trader Joe’s, New Seasons, and community members like you, we were able to keep the shelves at Preston’s Pantry stocked with plenty of fresh and healthy foods
for our neighbors.

With much gratitude for your support,

Erin Goldwater
Executive Director
