National Volunteer Week: Surf Lifesavers Changing Communities and Changing Lives
National Volunteer Week is a time to acknowledge the people of Australia who generously donate their time to help better the lives of others. Surf lifesavers are some of the most dedicated and outstanding volunteers who really do change communities and change lives.
To celebrate National Volunteer Week and to recognise the outstanding efforts of our volunteers, we profiled a series of members from NSW surf clubs.
New Coronavirus Updates and Resources for SLSNSW Members
SLSNSW has created an agile Return to Sports Plan to address the fluid requirement of each restriction level as they are adopted and announced by the NSW Government.
The intent of this Plan is to provide clear and concise actions and guidelines to branches, clubs and members for the current phase legislated by the NSW Government as we navigate our return to training and competition. This will also include Junior Activity Programs as it becomes relevant.
Hazardous Weather Warning: Large Swell and Strong Winds to Hit NSW Coast
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Hazardous Surf Warning and Marine Wind Warning for the NSW coastline from Eden on the Far South Coast to Byron Bay on the Far North Coast. The hazardous weather conditions are forecast to impact the NSW coast from today, 22 May, through to at least Sunday 24 May.
Sharkskin Supports Frontline Healthcare Workers
When the Coronavirus pandemic reached Australian shores, both domestic retail sales and international exports were impacted, leaving many local manufacturers in hot water. But using some Aussie ingenuity, watersports apparel manufacturer Sharkskin has risen to the challenge, transforming their factory into a production line for protective equipment for frontline healthcare workers.
How to Win a Board Rescue Australian Title with Nathan & Hayden
This week is your chance to learn about Board Rescue, really learn about Board Rescue. One of the most fun yet strategic races of them all broken down by two of the best. 2019 Australian Champions and Iron legends from Wanda Hayden Allum and Nathan Smith talk us through how to start, transition and finish a Board Rescue race and dish out their tips for up-and-comers and well as clarifying the rules around reaching the buoy. Expressions of interest close Sunday for coaches in NSW that wish to be a part of the NSW Coach Leadership Group.
ALBERT State Steering Committee
Expressions of interest are now open for suitably qualified members to form the initial ALBERT State Steering Committee.
SLSA Female Mentoring Program
Nominations are now open for mentors and mentees to take part in the new SLSA Female Mentoring Program. Nominations close 15 June.
NSW Dorothy Hennessy OAM Emergency Services Youth Scholarship
The $1000 scholarship is to assist with further studies in the recipient's chosen career whilst celebrating and supporting the contribution of young volunteer heroes. Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards
Nominations for the 2020 Rotary NSW Emergency Services Community Awards have been extended until 31 May 2020.
These awards aim to recognise the unsung heroes that are often the quiet achievers, never asking for recognition but making a significant difference within their community.
We know there are countless members who continuously go above and beyond the call of duty and contribute enormously to Surf Life Saving. Nominate your fellow clubbies today!

This year NSW Branches are hosting their Awards of Excellence ceremonies online! Get your nominations in and join the celebrations.

Important Envirobank Update
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, all Envirobank scheduled collections have been temporarily suspended until further notice. If you require a collection during this time please contact Carley via email at ctomkinson@envirobank.com.au or phone 0499 221 521 to make arrangements. Further updates will be provided in due course.
Grant funding is an ideal way to obtain equipment, infrastructure or program funding for your club. In support of SLSCs in NSW, SLSNSW provides a professional grant service at no fee to NSW SLSCs through Surf Life Saving Foundation’s Grant Seeking Unit (GSU). The GSU is a national grant research and writing support unit for SLS entities across Australia.
