Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood visits 1969 Los Angeles, where everything is changing, as TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) make their way around an industry they hardly recognize anymore. The ninth film from the writer-director
features a large ensemble cast and multiple storylines in a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age.
TOP ARTISTS TAKE THE STAGE TO SUPPORT NEW KĀPITI PERFORMING ARTS CENTREProfessional performing artists from Kāpiti have gifted their time and talents to support the development of the new Kāpiti Performing Arts Centre in the inaugural Beat the Blues concert, which will be take place at The Waterfront Bar and Kitchen in Raumati Beach on Saturday September 7th. Hosted by crowd favourite Fergus Aitken, the gig will showcase the Coast’s best talent in
latin, funk, swing and the blues. Headline acts include the legendary Wayne Mason with Andrew & Kirsten London - a playful swing trio with devilishly clever lyrics; Paekākāriki reggae soul masters Tū Tilley and The FeÑa Latino Combo who bring an authentic tour d’force of rock, jazz and traditional spanish and brazilian sounds. Andrew London said the group is delighted to be able to help out with fundraising efforts for the performing arts centre, which is under construction on Raumati Road.
The Hon Jenny Salesa, Minister for Building and Construction, met with Kāpiti Coast District Council Chief Executive Wayne Maxwell and the Council Building Team early this week to discuss their submission to MBIE’s consultation around proposed building system legislative reform. Minister Salesa said that MBIE received nearly 500
submissions during the consultation.
The Kāpiti Coast District Council has awarded $175,000 to five local events that showcase a distinctly Kāpiti flavour and provide return on investment for the local economy. Trail running event XTERRA Wellington, Māoriland Film
Festival, Kāpiti Food Fair, FFFLAIR and the Ōtaki Kite Festival will each receive support through the 2019 Kāpiti Major Events Fund to deliver their events within the next year. “We were really impressed by the quality of applications we received through this funding round,” says James Jefferson, Group Manager Place & Space.
Innovative work by the Kāpiti Coast District Council to reduce its emissions by 76% over the last 10 years has been recognised in the 2019 Enviro-Mark Solutions Awards. The Awards are a biennial celebration of businesses certified under the CEMARS and
carboNZero programmes that have shown exceptional leadership in climate change mitigation and environmental action. This morning, the Council took out the Excellence in Climate Action (medium organisation) category at the Enviro-Mark Solutions Awards breakfast in Auckland.

KAPITI FOOD FAIR NEARLY CLOSED FOR VENDOR REGISTRATION AND ANNOUNCES CELEBRITY GUESTThe Kapiti Food Fair opened for vendor registration back in April and sites have been snapped up quickly. The total site footprint this year is increasing to 230+ and there are less than 10 sites left! “We are delighted with the mix of returning and new vendors and there is definitely something for everyone,” says Fair owners Helene Judge and Jeanine van Kradenburg. At this stage around 30% of sites are ready to eat vendors either in food trucks or cooking under gazebo, and the remaining 70%,
