Updated COVID-19 Safety Plan Templates
Surf Life Saving NSW has released updated COVID-19 Safety Plan templates (updated 15 September 2020) specifically contextualised for Surf Life Saving.
A reminder to please download and review the COVID-19 Matrix for SLS Activities. The matrix is supported by Information Packs (updated 28 August 2020) for all four areas, and a Media Response Plan for clubs.
Historic Changes to the Surf Life Saving NSW Constitution
President of Surf Life Saving NSW, George Shales OAM, has announced historic changes to the SLSNSW Constitution, unanimously endorsed by the State Council at a Special General Meeting held on Saturday 12 September 2020.
Vale Charlie Cox OAM: The Heart of the Community
It is with great sadness that Surf Life Saving NSW advises of the passing of Life Member Charlie Cox OAM of Evans Head-Casino SLSC. Charlie was passionate, selfless and truly community-minded. The time and energy he put into helping educate and develop others will be his enduring legacy.
High Tech Surf Life Saving Operations Centre Opens
Surf Life Saving NSW will have better emergency communications and coordination capability, after the NSW Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott officially opened the new State Operations Centre in Sydney last Sunday.
Life Saving Partnership with Harvey Norman
Surf Life Saving NSW is pleased to announce a new retail partnership with Harvey Norman, which will see vital first aid equipment used by surf lifesavers made readily available to the public.
Heart of the Neighbourhood
Former Wiggle Greg Page and his celebrity friends are on a mission to save Aussie lives. Greg, together with SLSNSW and Nextdoor, are attempting to break the world record for the most people trained in CPR and AEDs in one day. Silver Salties Information Webinars
SLSA will be hosting two webinars on the Silver Salties program for club representatives;
- 2pm - 2.30pm, Fri 18 September - Register here
- 6pm - 6.30pm, Wed 23 September - Register here
The webinars will provide an overview of the Silver Salties initiative, experiences from clubs already delivering Silver Salties programs, and guidance as to how clubs can get involved and access support resources - including seed grants.

Nominations close Wednesday 23 September for the Rotary Inspiration Women's Awards, which recognise service to the community across all sectors.

Nominations for Life Membership of Surf Life Saving NSW close next Friday, 25 September.
UAV Proficiency Now Open
UAV proficiency is now open and must be completed by Thursday 31 December 2020.
The following components are required for proficiency to be granted:
- Submission of ARN (if you have done this previously then no need to repeat) and Excluded Category Notification (yearly requirement) to uav@surflifesaving.com.au
- Review of the SLSNSW UAV Standard Operating Procedures
- Successful completion of this questionnaire and a pass mark of 20/21 marked questions (multiple attempts accepted).

Events
2020/21 Surf Sports Season
The SLSNSW Surf Sports team and Branch Directors of Surf Sports are working hard to finalise calendars for the season ahead. There is strong intent to deliver surf sport events this season and lots of work is being undertaken to make that happen within the guidelines of the current restrictions. The State Championships will look different this season due to COVID-19 and the program is being reviewed to ensure that restrictions are adhered to and a viable Championship program is delivered.
Interbranch Championships
Due to COVID-19, the Interbranch Championships will move from December 2020 to March 2021. The SLSNSW Surf Sports team are currently working with branches to share and collaborate calendars and will seek to communicate the confirmed date in March soon.
Grants & Fundraising
Grant funding is an ideal way to obtain equipment, infrastructure or program funding for your club. In support of SLSCs in NSW, SLSNSW provides a professional grant service at no fee to NSW SLSCs through Surf Life Saving Foundation’s Grant Seeking Unit (GSU). The GSU is a national grant research and writing support unit for SLS entities across Australia.

Kitchen Catch Up - Understanding Mental Health & Wellbeing
In these unique times, many people may be feeling anxious, worried or afraid as COVID-19 continues to impact us all. Looking after the mental health of ourselves, friends and family is an important part of staying well.
Join us for a 60-minute Kitchen Catch Up with two of our accredited Mental Health First Aid Trainers to learn more about Mental Health and how to look after yourself and others.

Reporting to the Community Education Manager, this role is responsible for assisting Surf Life Saving NSW with the delivery of beach and water safety education programs to a variety of groups with a key focus on primary and high schools.
Australian Lifeguard Service NSW - Recruitment Now Open!
With over 350 positions available across 90 locations, the ALS is encouraging surf lifesavers to apply as a means of offering local employment, building stronger relationships with clubs and providing opportunities for club members to develop leadership and lifesaving skills as:
- Lifeguard Supervisors
- Seasonal Lifeguards
- Casual Lifeguards.
