Announcements **Attention incoming first year and new transfer students: For best consideration regarding housing accommodation requests, students must complete a registration form, submit necessary documentation and meet with a representative from the Disability Services Office by June 1. Please refer to our website for registration directions and documentation guidelines. Summer Externship Opportunity: The National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE) is offering opportunities to become an Access to Exchange Extern for alumni of both inbound and outbound international exchange programs. Applications are due Friday, May 21. Externships will take place June-August 2021. According to the NCDE, an NCDE Externship will allow you to “help promote the message to more people with disabilities about access to all types of international exchange programs, such as studying and volunteering abroad, by carrying out a virtual outreach activity in your local community. The NCDE will work with the 10 selected externs to build onto their activity for the most effective outreach.” Outbound Externship Applications are for alumni of an exchange program from the U.S. to a country abroad. Boston College’s Mental Health Advocacy Club, To Write Love On Her Arms, will be holding a virtual event with Sarah Vancini on Tuesday, May 4th at 8pm. Sarah is a BC alumna and now runs a career development company called Career Baboon. The Microsoft Ability Summit, May 5-6, 2021 A two-day, free digital event experience that brings together people with disabilities, allies, and accessibility professionals to Imagine, Build, Include, and Empower the future of disability inclusion and accessibility. Working Through Health, Anxiety & Isolation [Lime Connect Webinar] As we’ve navigated the pandemic, feelings of anxiety regarding our own health and that of our loved ones have impacted each of us; and many have also been forced to deal with experiences of isolation and loneliness. Lime Network members are invited to join Nancy Hood, Program Manager at Mental Health Works (CMHA), to learn some strategies to mitigate anxiety about returning to the workplace. In addition, we’ll introduce some important skills and protective factors that help combat isolation and loneliness. Voices of Lime: Insights into Life With a Mental Health Condition [Webinar] Join Lime Connect and The Stability Network’s Michelle Tenzyk, as she moderates a discussion with Lime Network members about living and working with a mental health condition. Through this engaging session, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of mental health conditions as well as ways in which to support individuals on both personal and professional levels. New and Notable On April 12 the Boston College Strong Scholarship recipients were celebrated at a virtual event. The BC Strong Scholarship supports BC students who have overcome adversity to provide awareness and support for disabilities and accessibility issues, honoring Boston Marathon bombing survivors Patrick Downes (BC '05) and his wife Jessica Kensky. The four BC Strong Scholarship recipients Include Cathryn (Cate) K. Cheevers '23, Ansel-Ikaei Kufta '24, Jack Manning '20, and Conor V. McCormick '22.
