Update on Making Tax Digital

Ministers confirmed a new timetable for Making Tax Digital on 13th July 2018. This new schedule, due to be introduced in the Autumn 2017 Finance Bill, outlined some important changes. 

Significantly for small businesses, only those with a turnover above the VAT threshold (currently £85,000) will have to keep digital records and only for VAT purposes from 2019. Read more

Simple assessment and other personal tax news

New rules regarding Simple Assessments have been introduced for 2016/17 to support the Making Tax Digital agenda. Broadly speaking HMRC has the power to make a simple assessment of a taxpayer’s income and/or capital gains outside the self-assessment system. Read more

New tax-free childcare scheme

The government is rolling out the new tax-free childcare scheme during 2017, starting with parents of the youngest children. The scheme is worth a maximum of £2,000 per child (£4,000 for a disabled child). Read more
