Surf Life Saving Celebrates World Refugee DaySurf Life Saving clubs in NSW work hard to spread the message of beach safety to CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) communities, including refugees and migrants. On World Refugee Day (Thursday 20 June) we celebrated programs that make a difference and work to save lives for those who are new to Australia. NSW IRB Premiership Won & State Team AnnouncedThe 2019 Sharkskin NSW IRB Premiership series wrapped up at Caves Beach with Kiama Downs SLSC taking out the final point score after winning all four rounds. The 13 Year-Old Lifesaver Advising The NSW GovernmentJayden Redfern from Terrigal SLSC is just 13 years-old and has already taken the initiative to be part of the big picture, not only in Surf Life Saving but also within the wider community. Australian Lifesavers Continue International Dominance With 12th VictoryThe Australian Lifesaving Team has secured its 12th consecutive Sanyo Bussan International Lifesaving Cup in Japan. The Aussie team made up of 10 athletes, including two NSW champion Ironpeople, Jackson Borg (Newport SLSC) and Naomi Scott (Manly LSC) who continued their legacy of domination in the waves and on the sand. Surfer Safety Series: Episode Six - After The RescueThe Surfer Safety Series hosted by Newport SLSC's Nick Carroll is an introduction to taking the first steps to help save a life for surfers. The six part series breaks down surfboard rescues and basic CPR for surfers. 11 Year-Old Wins NSW Rescue AwardAt 5:30pm on Tuesday 12 March 2019, Max Taylor from Wamberal SLSC paddled in, returning to shore from an after school surf. He headed across the beach to the carpark where he expected he would meet his Dad, but was distracted when he heard someone calling for help. Vale Neil Purcell OAM: The True GentlemanIt is with great sadness SLSNSW advises the passing of life member Neil Ronald Purcell OAM, a much-loved member of North Steyne SLSC. Neil has been described by many SLS leaders, community members and loved ones as someone who above all else was a true gentleman. Thai Lifesaving Program SuccessVolunteer lifesavers from Far North Coast clubs have given the gift of life to the people of Phuket in a recent visit to educate the community and deliver donated surf rescue equipment. In late April volunteers from clubs including Cudgen, Salt, Cabarita, Fingal and Ballina completed another successful training tour to Thailand where they conducted lifesaving skills and CPR training for around 50 locals. |
