National Reconciliation Week – Don’t Keep History a MysteryThis year’s theme for National Reconciliation Week – Don’t Keep History A Mystery: Learn. Share. Grow – urges all Australians to explore history hidden just beneath the surface, ready and waiting to be uncovered. NTGPE came together to learn more about the lesser known aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and achievements. Did you know: Gwoya Jungarai from the Tanami Desert, (located approximately 200 km north-west of Alice Springs) survived one of the last recognised massacres of Aboriginal people. Also known as One Pound Jimmy, you'll find him depicted on the $2 coin. Organisers of NTGPE National Reconciliation event (L-R) Kerry Ganley, Elisabeth Heenan, Diane Frey and Patricia Rankine. Medical educators receive people's choice awardNTGPE Medical Educators, Dr Sarah Kloeden and Dr Hubert van Doorn stepped up to the PechaKucha challenge at GPME in Brisbane last week. "PechaKucha is a format for a short presentation with strict rules. Each presentation is exactly timed so that a PowerPoint slide, there are 20 in all, is displayed every 20 seconds,” says Dr Van Doorn. To bring an element of fun and silliness to their presentation on clinical reasoning, Dr Kloeden and Dr Van Doorn in-cluded close to 80 ‘in’ words while dressed in not so ‘in’ clothes. Their unique idea impressed the audience with the pair being awarded the people’s choice award. Who says medical education can’t be fun? Congratulations Hubert and Sarah.
