Compensation Matters - JULY 2025

Kaya reader,

It is hard to believe one year has passed since the commencement of the Workers Compensation and Injury Management Act 2023 on 1 July 2024.

In a year where all stakeholders consolidated the modernisation agenda, our sincerest thanks for demonstrating your commitment to the implementation journey. Your efforts, insights and feedback were appreciated.

As we enter a new financial year, we also launch our Strategic Plan 2025-2028: Amplifying Impact.

It sets out the strategic priorities that will guide our agency over the next three years:

  • Delivering strategic scheme management
  • Improving service provider capability
  • Building culture and systems.

This plan is our commitment to ensure we continue to deliver on our vision: a workers compensation and injury management scheme that works for all.

Come with us on the journey to amplifying our impact at the WorkCover WA Conference 2025 this September. With just 50 tickets remaining, secure your place now.

Available now: Indexation of Workers Compensation Payments 2025/26

Injured workers have a range of statutory entitlements available to them to assist their recovery and return to suitable and sustainable employment.

The Indexation of Workers Compensation Payments 2025/26 Schedule provides the list of indexed entitlements to apply from 1 July 2025.

It includes the indexation of the General Maximum Amount (formerly the Prescribed Amount) which is the maximum amount an injured worker can receive in terms of weekly payments for loss of earnings during the life of their claim.

APIA Principles and Standards

One of our key projects over the year ahead is developing a cohesive set of service expectations for Approved Permanent Impairment Assessors (APIAs), as the next addition to our suite of Principles and Standards publications.

The Approved Permanent Impairment Assessor: Principles and Standards of Practice will be developed in collaboration with key stakeholders and aims to set out clear priority areas for APIAs to guide them in performing their role.

It will also assist workers, employers and insurers who interact with APIA services to understand the level of service they can expect to receive.

Reaching the Regions

We prioritise ensuring our regional stakeholders have access to the resources and information they need about their rights and legal obligations.

In early June, inspectors travelled to Busselton to conduct compliance inspections and educate our stakeholders in the Southwest.

They also met with insurance brokers from Phoenix Insurance Brokers and Elders Insurance to discuss and distribute copies of our Insurance Brokers: Principles and Standards of Practice.

We followed it up with a visit to the Pilbara, heading up to Port Hedland in late June.

Our inspectors met employers and workers in-person as well as meeting with staff at Hedland Health Campus to provide a pack of First Steps resources for injured workers.

Culture corner

Pride Month is a time when we come together to celebrate pride and liberation but also recognise the ongoing fight for a world where everyone is safe to be who they are.

As a values-based organisation, we strive to be a welcoming and inclusive workplace for all. This June, we celebrated Pride in true rainbow fashion with a lunchtime Charity Quiz!

We were thrilled to raise over $300 for Living Proud, a WA-based charity dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+SB youth across the state.
