A Special Visitor

On Wednesday, August 14, OLV students were treated to a visit by Thierry Roch, former Swiss Guard to the Holy Father, Pope Francis. Thierry spoke to our middle school students at length about his experiences in his role of protecting the Pope. Thierry also took the time to visit briefly with a few of our younger students. Thierry shared with the children the history of the Swiss Guard, qualifications and duties of a guard, and some of his personal experiences during his time as a guard. He spoke of the effect that being a guard had on his own religious life and how being so close to the Pope brought him closer to God. Our students thoroughly enjoyed learning about Thierry’s special role, seeing pictures from his time at The Vatican, and asking questions. We are grateful for his visit to our school.

We are fortunate to have such a hard-working group of parents involved in our PTO. We appreciate the commitment that these individuals have made for the benefit of our school.

Another Successful BASH!

Our annual Back-To-School BASH was a big hit! The event, sponsored by the PTO, was well-attended by families of the school, both old and new. There were inflatables, games, rides, cotton candy, food and more! A great time was had by all. A special thanks to our amazing PTO and the many volunteers that helped to make this event a reality. What a great way to kick-off the school year!

CHARACTER COUNTS
New Virtue Program In Full Swing at OLV

This year, our entire school community is focusing it’s attention on becoming better disciples of Christ through our school-wide theme, Win, Build, Send. One of the ways we will be doing this is by concentrating on virtues. Each month, a different virtue will be the focal point of all we do. From interactions on the playground or in the cafeteria, to lessons and stories discussed in the classroom, the virtue of the month will be evident in all we do. To start off the year, our virtue of the month for August was one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit, kindness. As we all began a new school year and faced the challenges that come with starting over, we worked to remember to spread kindness to each other in our daily routines. In this way our entire school community could truly experience the love of Jesus Christ and see Him in one another. In September, our virtue of focus will be obedience. Throughout the month, strive to work with your child(ren) to cultivate this virtue by listening to authority, following directions, and giving a prompt response.
