What's On Foodies October 2018

Eat well. Live well.

Welcome to the October edition of Foodies. The past weeks have been a maze of Government information sessions. We have welcomed the new Aged Care standards being passed through legislation which will see a greater focus on the consumer, their rights, choice and aspirations. Wellness is the focus of our business and a working with rather than working for attitude and philosophy.

Explore the Wellness Philosophy

This October we are supporting Mental Health Month with the theme #sharethejourney2018. During October we will be encouraging people via our Facebook page to connect, share stories, memories, meals and more in an effort to bring awareness to mental health, and reduce stigma and loneliness.

Also this month we will be celebrating National Carers Week, 14-20 October 2018, recognising and sharing the importance of volunteers and carers throughout the community. We invite you to share your story and tell us "Why do you Care?" by either posting on Facebook with the hashtag #thatswhywecare or you can email us your story at info@foodservices.org.au*

Thank you to all who filled out the recent survey. As a result, we will soon be offering new Cooking for One sessions, so stay tuned for more details. Congrats to Ian, the winner of our SuperNature competition, and welcome to Jackie Armstrong, who has joined the famous Kitchen Crew team of Paul and Lily.

Why do you Care?

National Carer's Week
14 - 20 October 2018

Anyone at any time can become a carer. Australia’s 2.7 million carers make an enormous contribution to our communities, with their caring roles being valued at $60.3 billion annually – more than $1 billion per week.

Cathy's Story
"At the age of 4 my son was diagnosed with autism and a year or so later his little sister also. This was the start of my caring journey above and beyond that of a mother. I attended workshops, therapies, early intervention, and read extensively, and learned to be an advocate. But the journey was far more than that. I stepped into a world that I barely knew existed before, heard stories from other carers that tore at my heart, and saw the strength in people that devote their lives to caring. Caring for me now means encouraging change and to educate whenever I have the opportunity."

National Carers Week provides an opportunity to educate and raise awareness among all Australians about the diversity of carers and their caring roles.

By sharing your story* we can highlight the importance of recognising and supporting unpaid carers across all spectrums of society.

Tell us why you care

*By emailing Sutherland Food Services your "Why do you Care?" story you agree, your story may be used by Sutherland Food Services as part of advocacy work to raise awareness for unpaid carers (please note, stories will be de-identified to maintain anonymity).
