Gut bacteria researcher in the newsThe community of micro-organisms or bacteria that live in the digestive tracts of babies are influenced by the type of delivery the mother goes through, according to findings by department member Anita Kozyrskyj. These findings were widely covered by CBC news, CTV news, Folio.ca and The New York Times. Important updates for ECHA residentsToasters are toast in ECHAIf you have not removed kitchen appliances you have brought to ECHA (toasters, toaster ovens, panini makers, hot plates, etc.) they will be collected and donated to charity. Coffee makers are the only appliances permitted; the others are considered fire hazards and must be removed. To aide in building safety, ECHA is equipped with highly-sensitive fire alarm sensors that detect the faintest amount of burning - like a piece of burnt toast. The Fire Department charges $10,000 to respond to false alarms; we all need to make an effort to avoid these costs. Contact the ECHA Administration office if you have any questions or concerns at echa.admin@ualberta.ca. Access to the administrative levels of ECHA (floors 3, 4 and 5) is changing.Effective Monday, March 12, 2018, the two stairwells leading from level 2 to 3 (one at the North end, one at the South), will be locked 24/7, and access possible only via ProxCard/OneCard. Access via the elevators will continue to be unhindered. Read the full memo from Wendy Brown, Chair, ECHA Admin Working Group If you are not sure your ProxCard/OneCard allows access from level 2, please test it at the door to another stairwell before March 12 and contact Jessica Leaman in HR (3-547D ECHA) if you need to be granted access.
