We’re Raising Funds for NSW FarmersStrathfield Council is partnering with Rural Aid to raise funds for farming families in NSW. Council is encouraging Strathfield residents and the wider community to help support drought-affected farmers. Donations will be used to supply aid and provide emergency relief services. Calling VolunteersAre you looking for a volunteer opportunity? Strathfield Council is seeking volunteers to help raise funds for the NSW Farmers Drought Appeal. Community Events Grant ApplicationThe application deadline for Council’s Community Event Grant Program have been extended to Friday 31 August. Grants are available for up to $6,000 for community based events at Strathfield LGA. Get your application in quick for consideration! Public Meeting for Planning ProposalsCouncil will be hosting a Public Meeting in relation to two planning proposals: 17-35 Parramatta Road and 5 Powell St, Homebush and 11-17 Columbia Lane, Homebush. When: Thursday 30 August 2018 Taking Care of Our PlantsAs part of this year’s National Tree Day, Council organised a beautiful native garden to be planted at Kurralee’s Children Centre. A number of schools also participated in the initiative by educating children about native plants and planting shrubs to increase biodiversity. NSW Stormwater Awards 2018Strathfield Council is pleased to announce two environmental projects supported by Council were recipients of the NSW Stormwater Award: ‘Excellence in Policy or Education’ for the Get the Site Right Sediment and Erosion Control Campaign and ‘Excellence in Asset Management’ for the Powells Creek Naturalisation Project. Throwback ThursdayFormer Homebush South Post OfficeA brick chimney, gabled hip tile roof and exposed rafters are some of the intricate details of the former Homebush South Post Office. Built in 1895, the two-storey building features dichromatic brickwork with an arched parapet and a large arched window. It was constructed by the NSW Public Works Department at a cost of £1150.
