Community Update

December 2020

2020 has been a year like no other, testing our commnuity in many ways. The motto "All in this together" has helped us remain confident in following the guidelines and reducing COVID 19 on the Gold Coast. It has definitely been a year to be grateful for what we have and the people in our lives.

On behalf of the team from the Division 2 office, the Community Venues team and all the staff at Helensvale Library, I would like to wish residents a very merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year! We look forward to seeing you at the Helensvale Library and Cultural Centre in 2021.

Sickle Park

The Sickle Park re-development project has commenced. OMCivil Engineering and Construction has set up its office south of the Hope Island Tennis Club and adjacent to the toilet block.

This project, due for completion in 2021, will enhance Sickle Park with more useful community facilities, trees and landscaping to beautify the park. The area adjoining the clubhouse and tennis courts is also included in this redevelopment. These works should not interrupt any of the tennis club's activities.

The car park will be relocated to outside of the park, with paths and lighting leading up to the tennis clubhouse and courts. The contractor has set up work areas that are barricaded and fenced to identify any exclusion zones to the public, and to ensure the safety of people while accessing the parklands. I would like to thank everyone for their patience while the legal document delays have been resolved. It's great to see these long promised park improvements finally underway.

Get ready for storm season

While the Gold Coast is renowned for its sunny weather, the city is still vulnerable to severe floods, storms, bushfires, cyclones and heat waves.

The best defence in any natural disaster is to be prepared. Pick up your copy of the Community Disaster Guide from Customer Service at the Helensvale Library and Cultural Centre.
